Hot Property - SEXIST?
First time I listened to Hot Property I loved the music, but also noticed the lyrics. "She's hot property" "my baby's hot property" "I got myself a little piece of hot property"
Am I missing something or is this terribly sexist?
I can't imagine Jay being that sexist. Sometimes his lyrics could trigger social justice warriors (she's a fast persuader ) but I always thought it was funny or justified.
Now I like Hot Property, but the sexist side of it leaves a bitter aftertaste.
Is there another meaning of the song, or is it a british slang or some sort of interpretation that I'm missing?
And since I do not speak russian, I imagined the russian woman saying "I'm not property! Slavery was a terrible thing! And you are married, you shouldn't talk like this! I am a strong independant woman!" |

I *think* he is talking about dangerous women. In the interview he talks about russian female squads. Whatever that is. |

So you think he's not talking about "his girl"?
But if she's dangerous, why is she property? Does she belong to someone else, as a russian squad member? |

I read "Hot Property" like something valuable. Also, and this is just me, it reminds me of bombs, millitary equipment, that sort of thing. You know "fragile", "dangerous property". I don't think it is *literal* property. |

"Hot property" is a possessive term, not a sexist one. _________________

You're over thinking it.
The Russian woman. The term "Hot Property." He's simply placing a characterization on how passionately he loves his woman and that people should not underestimate that or her.
It would be sexist if it was something degrading like "oh yeah, my baby gives great blowjobs!"
Like, seriously. I'd slap a dude over that. |

I'm not a native English speaker but to me view "Hot Property" is something dangerous, you can see on the lyrics as he says that is something to be careful about.
To me "property" is just another word for "something", just to define that is a thing, not in the possessive sense of it. |

Since you won't clarify what I'm missing, I came to the conclusion that you have no arguments. You just claim "wrong", like Trump does. Who is also a sexist pig.
@Javis, we are on jamiroTALK. This is a forum to TALK about Jamiroquai. This means primarily the music. And for many people lyrics are the most important part of popular music. You fail to recognize all that, please consider leaving this place.
It's people like you and jamirokaki who are destroying this forum. It used to be nice and friendly and now haters like you two bring disharmony and anger to the whole community. Why would anyone want to post anything, if they have to expect being treated like that?
Why would anyone want to even continue reading here, if they keep reading stupid and evil comments from you? No wonder this forum is dying!
If you dislike Jamiroquai so much, then leave! Do you also go to gay forums and cry about how you hate homosexuality?
Please consider other people's feelings and love for the music or lyrics, you so easily put down. Then we can all discuss and live better. |

To answer the question, 'hot property' is a pretty common phrase or saying to describe something that is valuable or in demand. Literally, it refers to a cycle in the property market where real estate is in demand, causing prices to rise above the average. In general speak, a person or thing that is 'hot property' is one who is in demand or more popular than others for whatever reason. For example, an A-list movie star could be considered hot property if every movie they do is successful. The latest iphone could be considered hot property if it's brand new and sold out everywhere. It hasn't got anything to do with being male or female, it's about being something that's desirable. _________________

I admit my comment wasn't cool, but I believe it's a normal reaction to your post: An unnecessary controversial accusation of sexism over a song, the kind of accusations which are destructive even to feminism.
Every time someones criticizes an artwork of being "overly sexual", "sexist" or other negative adjective is basically censuring the form of expression. Doesn't help in any way to reach equality of rights for both sex. It's just useless, destructive controversy. Because accusations like yours, feminism isn't taken seriously and its claims are often ignored.
In the other hand, your response to my comment is just overreacted and full of unfounded accusations:

please consider leaving this place. |
So, if I disagree with you, I should leave?

If you dislike Jamiroquai so much, then leave! |
Somehow you came to the conclusion I don't like Jamiroquai..

Do you also go to gay forums and cry about how you hate homosexuality? |
Also, if someone disagrees with you, then should be both anti-feminist and homophobic...
Sorry, but that was just fucking crazy. |
