"My Open Letter to Jamiroquai & Sony"
Hello, :bm_r:
This "open letter" I have composed is basically a compilation of all the feelings I & my fellow fans have felt about the never updated Official Jamiroquai website, the reasons why it was never attempted by Sony to improve or reach any fans, only as a means to push new Jamiroquai merchandise and other stuff. I originally posted this "open letter" on the moderator's only portion of JamiroTalk.net to get my fellow moderator's thoughts on it. After several strong and great replies from them, I'm going to (As I planned in the first place!) post this "open letter" here on JamiroTalk.net for all users to read, on the Funkin Site Guestbook, "J-Talk" on the Official Site, and the Frenchiroquai.com Forums. I hope you find this "open letter" informative, thought-provoking and share it's honest truth . Here it is...man, I feel like the Jamiroquai version of the Michael Moore...Ha Ha Ha!:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*MY OPEN LETTER TO JAMIROQUAI & SONY*
Dear Jamiroquai & Sony,
I don't know whether JK or any bandmembers, besides Derrick & Sola, will ever read this open letter" but at least it can be said that I tried. It's no mystery that the "Official Site" hasn't been fully updated "musicwise" in almost three years, with the LateNightTales CD Compilation being a rare exception. My fellow fans & myself have fathomed every possible reason for this idleness, but still haven't come up with a conclusion to why. We don't know, but there could be one of
four possible scenarios:
1. The work on the 6th album took all possible freetime for communication between the band and the Official Site webteam.
2. Sony Online promotions has become lazy in trying to capture anything during these new 6th album sessions to put on "J-Funk". (i.e. pictures, new video clips, etc.)
3. Everyone is biding their time to come up with a new recycled Official Site that would FINALLY be worthy for the fans to visit.
4. Sony and the band figure since there's a plethora of Jamiroquai fansites picking up their news reporting slack, that they don't need to bother to do anything.
It's hard to understand that popular fansites have been outcompeteing the Official Site for such a long time. It really stands as a testament to how loyal the fans have been to Jamiroquai over these last twelve years & five albums of their music. However there could be a contradiction in
terms with the third out of the four scenarios I listed above. Sony sicked their lawyers on the once great "Jamiroquai.com" fansite webmasters and claimed it owned the fansite's domain name, when the webmaster of it had legally registered and owned the site name, but in the end, Sony won and got the domain. This past incident really frayed relations between the fans and
Jam's record label Sony, and this was a major loss to the Online Jamiroquai Community. I don't hold Jamiroquai, it's bandmembers, or even JK responsible for this, just Sony. The most logical thing that could and should have been done in this situation was to give the webmasters of "Jamiroquai.com" a alternate URL to move the fansite too as a bit of reciprocity for wanting the original site domain. This move would have really kept Sony and the fans happy, but no, they
had to give the fanbase a "black eye".
However I stray and digress from the core reason for this open letter. I know, everything I have posted, griped and whined about over these past years have been discussed in the past by my fellow fans, forums and fansites that make up the Online Jamiroquai Community. I have noticed alot of the fans I converse with also share my feelings in their own individual ways about this continuing situation,. We the fans are unhappy, yeah, we have grown a heck of a strong patience having to wait every three years since 1997's "Travelling Without Moving" for a new Jamiroquai studio album. I don't see this "open letter" as a quick fix or remedy to the problems that have been hampering the Official Site. I merely wanted to present a consensus of what has been
bothering all of us fans. I look forward to, as do all of my fellow fans worldwide, to the sixth album effort from Jamiroquai soon.
I would like to thank JK, Toby, Sola, Wallace, Derrick, Rob, Kofi, Stu, Matt, Nick, DJ Dezire, The Reggae Philharmonic Orcestra, and the newest addition to the band, new bassist Alex Meadows
for all the music over the twelve year history of Jamiroquai.
To many of us "old school" Jam fans, who have followed the band from about late 92'- early 1993, it hasn't been only five albums of music, but a bright beacon of light that has kept us centered and made our lives so much sweeter.
I invite all my fellow users of "J-Talk", JamiroTalk.net and all the other fansites to leave their feelings in a reply to this "open letter".
I would like to also thank with great emotion the fans who have made a difference and have helped keep the Online Jamiroquai Community stronger than ever:
David & Sharon Rowe of the "Funkin Site", David Mahieux and all the French fans at
"Frenchiroquai.com, Enos and all Italian fans at the "Jamirosite.com", Pingwin and all the Polish fans at the "Jam.pl" site, Meike (AKA CosmicMouse)/CosmicBear & Funkmaster from the "JamiroTalk.net: International Jamiroquai Fan Forums", all the whole crew at the "Jamline: Jamiroquai newsletter" on Yahoo Groups, Francois Wiart and the whole crew at the past amazing "Jamiroquai.com" fansite, and all the fans who have contributed and continue to make our Fanbase so fruitful and lovely to see.
Also, a much deserved "thank you" to all the road crew and people who work in the background who keep things running smoothly for Jamiroquai's touring and promotions.
I think I speak for all fans worldwide when I say that the this new album will have been worth the long wait.
Cheers, take care & Peace!
Sincerely Your American Fan,
JamiroFan2000

Great idea and a very profound writing. Congratulations! Let's hope someone close to Jamiroquai will pay attention to this open letter and spread the message!
I suppose we will get some major news very very soon about the album. But that is a different thing, are we going to have a new look for the official web site any time soon. I recall that the current design of the official site was published about the same time as the album was in stores. Was it so?
Derrick should update the official site with all the latest news and atmospheres ;)
By the way, Toby Smith was not mentioned in the thank you's list. Let's not forget that genious vintage synth man _________________ kite carrier (geuze)

My e-mail of the open letter to Sola!
Hello again, :bm_r:
Thank you for your comments Mandy, you could be right about other factors . From the latest indications from my postings of the "open letter", everybody is highly agreeing with it and praising me for it, Thank you to all that have replied . I have e-mailed the "open letter" to Sola Akingbola at his website (www.solaakingbola.com), since I have heard in the past he actually answers his e-mails, he might read mine and send it on to JK, that's what I hope will . Here's a cut N paste of the e-mail I sent Sola :
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Sola,
I don't know if this e-mail will make any difference, at least I know you will have read it. Let me briefly introduce myself, I'm JamiroFan2000, An American Fan (followed the band since late 92', pretty rare eh?), I am a moderator on the JamiroTalk.net fan forums (www.jamirotalk.net), the JAMIROQUAI Group on Yahoo Groups (www.groups.yahoo.com/group/jamiroquai) and have my own Jamiroquai fansite (http://www.geocities.com/jamirofan2000/Newsbrief.html). It's no mystery that the Official Jam Site hasn't been updated "musically" by Sony in nearly 3 years. I mean, it's pretty sad when the only updating they do on it is for new Jamiroquai merchandise. I remember back in the old days, when fans would go there to read the latest Jamiroquai news. These days, it's a large Online Jamiroquai Community of loyal fans and their fansites that keep us in the latest happenings of the band, most notably David & Sharon Rowe at the Funkin Site (www.funkin.com) & David Mahieux at Frenchiroquai.com (www.frenchiroquai.com). But I digress, I have been doing alot of thinking about this issue, and I have composed a "Open Letter to Jamiroquai & Sony", voicing the disapproval of how Sony has handled the Official Jamiroquai site & the frayed relations between the fans and the label. Here is the "open letter" in it's entirety, if your able, please pass it on to JK so he knows and can find out what has been on our minds lately:

Thank you for your contribution to the sound of Jamiroquai, the music has really made us fans lives so much sweeter to live . Good luck on your work on the upcoming 6th Jamiroquai studio album and send my best to the rest of the band, especially the new Jamiroquai bassist Alex Meadows (His basslines on the 30 second clip of the new song "Black Devil Car" are WICKED!) Take care, Peace and keep funkin'!

I think I did a better job on the e-mail to Sola than the "open letter" itself...hehe! Oh well, once I get a answer from Sola, I'll post it here on JamiroTalk.net, you can be sure about that ! Thanks for all your replies and keep them coming (As I said before!). Take care and Peace!

Here here!! I have also written Sony awhile back but it iwas not as friendly as yours. My gripe was in specific to releasing a NTSC version of Live in Verona which I would still buy 10 years from now if they do decide to release one. But anywayz, great job Jamirofan!! _________________ Enter the mind of the coolpoet:
