6th Album news: Jerry Hee working on horns section!
Hello Jamirotalkers,
Since there are no big news around (strange, we should be hearing something by now), I found an interview (a couple of months old) with musician/arrenger Jerry Hee, where he talks about his future projects and he says
"Jamiroquai will be coming to LA to record and work with the horns. He has listened to a lot of what I have done in the past and hopefully I’ll be putting a few new twists on some of his songs"
We already know that this happened, so maybe this guy, who worked with some interesting jazz artists (read full interview) could be putting his touch to the new Jam album, bringing it back to what we like to hear

bien hecho Diego!
if Quincy Jones noticed the guy in this article, he must be good. Jones played in Dizzy Gillespie's trumpet section, won 26 Grammys and produced the best-selling album ever, Michael Jackson's "Thriller." _________________ i left my funk in san francisco

For the record, the cats name is Jerry Hey. He did some of his best work, personally, in the old funk band Seawind. The guys got perfect pitch, and can improv like a mother! I think he's done somewhere around 500 arrangements/performences in the studio, so the guy knows what he is doing. He also wrote, and performed all the horn licks in Micheal Jacksons "Off the Wall", as well as "Thriller". Just knowing this guy is arranging the new JK album makes me even more excited for it! |

Alright... Jerry Hey has played or written on over 800 albums. These bands include the Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, Heat Wave, Will Smith, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, George Benson, Brian McKnight, Frank Sinatra (Re-Recorded selections), Anita Baker, Quincy Jones, Rob Zombie (yes... rob zombie), Stevie Nicks, Chicago, Ray Charles, Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, Elton John, Toto, Lionel Richie, Teddy Pendegrass, Don Henley, Counting Crows, Micheal Jackson, and the Jackson 5. BTW, just because he recorded stuff on pop albums doesn't make him pop. Its work for him, of which no musician denies (at least from personal experience). Anyways, its JK's call. |

Man, you're reading my mind!! I too don't want them to become widly famous. Ok, this must sound selfish, but you all know what happens when you're on MTV all the time. Corny predictable music.

I have to agree that I like the old stuff alot, but I like the new stuff alot too. The newer albums have alot of depth in the orchestration (Corner of the Earth/Picture of My Life for instance), and so forth. But I think the newer albums lack the groove that the first few had. I personally like it all and you can tell that it is JK's stuff no matter what. Oh, also the thing to keep in mind is that its the producer that determines the, how to say it, flavor of the album. For the most part I'm just excited that Jason is going to use more horns again, being a trumpet player and all. And since Jerry Hey does excellent work, I know for sure that the horn section will kick. Just need to figure out who the hell is producing it... |
