Jazz, John, Jaco.....
I was wondering, how many people here enjoy jazz??
I'm not necessarily talking about acid jazz, but the traditional, modern, swing, fusion, bop etc... Jazz..
I'm fifteen right now, but I have been just recently(1 1/2 years ago) introduced to jazz, and i gotta tell ya, this is what music is all about....

Jazz is the keystone to modern music of today, and it should do you very good to listen to this kind of music...
Particularly, i'm more interested in modern jazz (after the invention of the electric bass), however, artists such as miles davis, john coltrane, herbie hancock and sonny rollins (caught his show in Jazz à Juan, a jazz festival in south france, this year, and it was AMAZING!!!!) are great to listen to...
However, my personal favourite is Jaco Pastorius, the amazing fretless bass player, famous for being considered the best player in the world... if you ever get the chance, listen to his anthology, launched last year by warner's Rhino records, called 'Punk Jazz'....he is simply an amazing player, and an even more amazing composer.... one of his songs, called 'The chicken' has one of the most mind-intruding melodies of all, played on horns....after listening to 'the Chicken', i found myself singing it everywhere, from the shower, to classes in school.....

tell me what you guys think abouth Jazz, i'd really be interested in hearing, and share with us here at Jamirotalk your favourite artists....

Hey man as i said before here in Jamirotalk, one of my musical influences is the Jazz. So, there are a lot of Jazz styles!!! I love is Latin jazz. Tito Puente was the biggest influence in Latin Jazz, and here in Venezuela we have some Jazz talents, as Andy Duran and his Latin Jazz band.

This is an Andy Duran's Latin jazz Band picture:

This is Tito Puente [Timbals and Vibes] and his Latin Jazz band (a pic of the 60's):

Hey Mers, i have some albums of The Afro Cuban All Stars, and their music is fantastic. They were of the Fania All-Stars times... Latin Jazz is to dance, and the other variations are just to sit and listen quietly. To make the environment be so quiet, you know what i mean...

I absolutely love jazz! I like acid jazz a lot, also I like Norah Jones, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Stanely Turrentine, Hank Crawford(one of my favorites)-just a few off the top of my head. We have the Buena Vista Social Club on video-it's really good. I work in a coffee shop and my favorite is when I open on Sunday mornings- I just put on this jazz compilation CD we have, and it makes being there that early so much better. Jazz is awesome.

P.S. I was first introduced to acid jazz when my boyfriend put on Mushroom Jazz (DJ Mark Farina) for me. There are 4 volumes now, I first heard the 3rd one, but I have all of them now and they are all awesome! I highly recommend getting one or all of them if you're an acid jazz fan stoned

I like it, but like techno it can be hit or miss, so I always feel Im takin a risk when buying Jazz albums. I just know to stay away from Kenny G lol.

Anyway I own albums from Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holliday. I put them in a lot when Im tryin to get work done.

Ah, gotta love the jazz. I remember 4 years ago or so I heard some stuff from Wynton Marsalis' Live at the Septet (Village Vanguard). I didn't like it much at all. Now, however, it has become my favorite genre of music and I happen to own ~15 Wynton Marsalis CDs. I must give thanks to Arturo Sandoval, the man who got me into jazz. He plays a lot of Latin stuff (being Cuban and all. Smile) But anyway, the power and beauty of his horn made me an instant fan and from there I only searched for more trumpet players. (Maynard Ferguson, Miles Davis, Bobby Shrew, Bill Chase, Dizzy Gillespie, Chris Botti, Al Hirt and many others.)

Anyway, just giving some worthless background info there. Aside from all the trumpet players already listed I also enjoy the following artists:
-Thelonious Monk
-John Coltrane
-Marcus Miller
-Chuck Mangione
-Charlie Parker
-Stan Getz (Especially the album with Joao Gilberto)
-Earl Klugh
-Wes Montgomery
-David Sanborn

I'm sure there are plenty of other misc. artists I listen to, but those are a lot of my favorites. Also, I forget to mention that I got to meet and talk to Arturo Sandoval at the Blue Note. (The night I saw him they were recording the show to be his first offical live release, what were the chances of that?!)
