this is not true!
they may resize on your computer when YOU scan and LOAD them on ur machine but that doesnt mean that its going to look like that on the web.... in order to upload an image to the web there r several things that have to be looked about... such as the resolution, file size and the internet connection of the audience. .... i recommend doing a simple 320x240 with a .jpeg/.jpg or .gif format NO .BMP as they files are normally extremly rather large yes over 200-500kb sometimes for something the same as .jpeg or a .gif
seriously some of the images that people post are f&*king ridiculous! S&*ts me to death.... |

okay, chill, people! no need to attack each other here, okay?
we've had that discussion about file-size before. I agree that people should consider that some users might not be on broadband or have huge screens.
as far as i know, funkmaster just installed a script that resizes pictures to a specific wide if they are too big. that script is javascript-based, so if you have turned of java on your browser it is not going to work. and this is only an optical thing. it doesn't change anything about the data that needs to be downloaded.
i will discuss this problem with funkmaster and cosmicmouse and we will see if we can come up with a solution. until then, i can only ask the user of this forum to be a bit more careful about the data-size that they post here. _________________ Dear Auntie Em. This is the effect when the data is not loaded from the internet but from your browser cache. But in this case scrollbars should show up at least. Do they?

Well, look ... there are 3 solutions WE could come up with:
1. We could patiently provide online lessons in using all the available different types of image processing software and teach people to resize their pictures to a reasonable format and optimize them for web using.
2. We could provide upload functionality and let the system resize and optimize the images. This would be the most preferable solution, but would cost "a fortune" on traffic volume, which is not acceptable either.
3. We could let the system control filesizes ... - and if size over 50KB not accept the picture but only show the link. (he, he ... could this be paraphrasized as "contraceptive measure"? )
This is probably the most feasible solution but means some programming work for me since I am not aware of any publicly available solution for this forum software. Thus, I understand the problem and I will keep it in mind ... but I count on your patience until a good day for solving it will come. |

eee. just one thing.
You say it would cost a fortune if we would use image resize (big size etc.),
But, the pictures that are posted here do not count on jamirotalk's bandwidth but on pages from site they were linked from.
I don't know if you meant that, maybe I misunderstood.
Oh, and when I post here picture I always resize it to maximum 500 pixles in width (and compress it of course). I mean is it so hard to do that?
Yes, you have to save picture, resample it and upload to your site or photobucket. But I think this is the right thing to do! I think it's not good to post images here all over the place. |

Yes, that's how it is NOW. But if we would provide UPLOAD functionality, members could upload pictures to the Jamirotalk server, where they would be resized, optimized and HOSTED. That's what I meant and that's what I can not provide. I know that you can understand that very well from your own latest experience ...

I agree. But we must accept, that not everybody has skills and tools to do so. |

Haha, thanks. I now know what you mean
Well, I think first option should be resizing and second option would be MODs that automatically resize pics. Exactly the same as we have now.
I completely understand those who have slow connection and I know how long is it taking to upload some few 100 KB pic.
Is there any way we could use or make MOD (sorry Miran, more work for you ) where you would choose if you want to see pictres or not?
You know, those with slow connections would see only links or pictures smaller than for example 50 KB. I know that would be very hard to do so I suppose this is not option. |

My husband has a discussion forum and he installed something called Photo Post: http://www.photopost.com/?AID=6308411&PID=1457557
This does cost a little money but he was able to do it because he got a few small donations from forum members to cover the cost.
There is also a free service called Gallery. I'm not sure what the differences are but here is their website: http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index
I cannot tell you the difference this has made to the members of the board. They are able to post as many pictures as they like and others can post comments about the pictures. It has made the board much more enjoyable. Better yet the pictures are in an organised fashion. |

I'm a little computer illiterate when it comes to resizing pictures,(well, actually I'm a little computer illiterate all together) but, maybe there can be some instructions typed up on how to resize/post pics. The instructions can be posted in here and when someone new joins, the link to the post can be put in their welcome e-mail with a little message about the rules for picture posting. I don't know, like I said, I don't really have a clue when it comes to the programs and things you guys are talking about doing, but I'm just trying to help with a solution B.t.w., I did post some of my pics in the Jamily forum after I uploaded them to photobucket and they turned out to be pretty big, so I apologize for that
