Bad bad news, ppl: TOBY BOWS OUT!!! :-(
JAMIROQUAI'S TOBY BOWS OUT
Jamiroquai keyboardist and long time collaborator Toby Smith is bowing out of the band to spend more time with his family. Smith, who has a young daughter, has decided to take time out from the constant touring that has seen him away from home for much of the last few years.
Jamiroquai front man Jay Kay said this week "It is sad to see him go but I totally understand the commitment Toby feels for his family and the strains of being away from home for long periods. I wish him all the best."
The pair have left the door open to working together on future studio projects.
All Jamiroquai live dates during the summer remain unaffected.

...that's definitely a basic loss for the band and the music. I can't believe it!!! AAARRRGHHH!!!!
But on the other hand I can absolutely understand his decision. Children grow up so fast. I am sure he will enjoy his "new" family live!!!
Good luck, Toby!!!! :good:

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!
I just can't beleive it too!!!!!!
Well, actually I can believe it and I feel the same as you do CosmicMouse. Smith has brought so much quality in Jamiroquai that it is hard to see him go. Still, how can you be mad at someone who is sensible enough to make his family his first priority?
Now let me go to J-Talk to comfort poor Deesha/Vibingirl. |

Bye Toby
I still can't belive Toby is leaving...I guess we'll enter a new Jam-era. Let's keep our vibes intact though.
It 's going to be quite a challenge for Jay and the guys, let's wait and see.
Jamiroquai is dead,long live Jamiroquai!

Sarah found this on the website of THE MIRROR
Jamiroquai keyboard player Toby Smith has quit the band to spend more time with his young family.
He hasn't severed all ties. Frontman Jay Kay has apparently left the door open for him to return in the future.
Jay says: "I understand the strains of being away from home for long periods. I wish him all the best."

okay, i think, i need some confirmation here from somebody, who's a native english-speaker
what i don't understand: the last line says "the summer festivals remain uneffected" for me, that means, toby will still play the summer gigs and will leave afterwards.
after all, leaving two and half weeks before the festivals start, would not be fair, would it?
i do understand, that toby is leaving the band to spend more time with his family! good for him actually! i understand that perfectly well. if you have someone special in your life, spend time with them. especially children. as cosmicmouse said, kids grow up so fast. enjoy it while it lasts.
i can also understand, that lots of fans are disapointed and sad, that he leaves, but as somebody on the jamline said: it's not the end of the world! i wish him all the best for his life and hope, he will return for the next studio-album!
cosmic greetings

Explanation!
What the last line means is that the summer dates will still go ahead, even though Toby has left. So, in other words: Toby will not play in these gigs.
Hope this clears things up for you, Cosmic Bear!

Stinks about Toby leaving....
Hello everyone ,
Pretty much sums up my emotions about Toby leaving Jamiroquai, talk about a big blow to the fans! Oh well, Toby was due some downtime anyway, he's a new father, and family comes first! I'm sure Jay can find a suitable replacement from one of the local bands in town that could fill in....maybe...Remy SHand! ...he's great on the keyboards! Anyway, I wish Toby good luck and hopes he returns back to the Jamiroquai herd in the future! Peace!
