What kind of music does Jamiroquai play?
Hello Jamirotalkers,
I was thinking... what kind of music does Jamiroquai play?? Take this for example, the first album was basically Acid Jazz. Then in the second one, they played different styles (funky soulful), in the third one it was a little bit of pop and disco (Cosmic Girl), featuring a reggae song (Drifting Along), a couple of african/aboriginal (Didjerama/ Didjital Vibrations) and good rhythm section on Use The Force. Then on Synkronized, they were funky, dance, soul and, why not, R&B with Falling, and on AFO they mixed electronic with bossa nova and acoustic songs (COTE, POML, BC). And now (judging the 30 seconds of Black Devil Car) sounds like rock.
So... what kind of music does Jamiroquai play??

I think you categorised the albums very well. When I listen to Shoot The Moon, the sample of BDC and the songs of the Midnight Sun Tour 2003, i guess the new album will be rock indeed mixed with electronic again and jazz. I think there'll be more guitarsolo's. |

In a perfect world, Jamiroquai plays a constantly-changing and evolving blend of all of those listed above, and make headway into unreached styles in the future.
In reality, Jamiroquai plays....what JK likes at that moment in time.
Just kidding, kidding. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. Otherwise, I have to be honest, I can see a situation where...there is a possibility that you become lost in the annals of acid jazz history." -- Jason Kay |

Hello,
Well, to be honest guys, ALL MUSIC is hard to categorize these days in the states ! I mean, ever since some ignorant music industry guy decided that grouping "Rock" & "Pop" into the same section, it's been hard to consider "who?" plays "what?" type of music genre. In Jamiroquai's case, as many of you have noted, they have jumped back and forth between musical styles, starting in the early days with a "Acid Jazz/R&B/Soul/Funk" fusion, then later on reinventing and in some respects bringing back "Disco/Funk". But if I had the chance of naming their music style, I would call it: "Acid Jazzy Soulseeded Rhythmned Funk"! Hehe, I know, that's a mouthful, oh well, thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________

For me they star with Acid Jazz....they have to finish with Acid Jazz!
But if we see all the albums, everyalbum is much more different then anyother!
EOPE The most 'soudable' album off all, full of great sounds..the most 'calm' albums of all! Its the begin of the band, lots of influences, here i can say the Acid Jazz ,mix of rap (specialy in the concerts)!Maybe is one way to catologue Jamiroquai Music for the first Album!
ROTSC Everytime i tink on this Album, for me is the most "hardcore" soud that Jamiroquai can ever do!Hardcore in the sence of the musics, they are very hard to someone like to listen it , (well normal people...do u tink somebody that isn't normal would like to listen Just Another Story? But we aren't Normal...we are JAMIROQUAI FANS ) For me is the best album..got some influences that came from the first album, that is bit obvius for me in this album got some Rock, if we listen The Kids in the next tour..everybody will see that is rock! But the Jazz and the Instrumental musics continue there! Like Free Jazz , they are a band that do lots of that..great improvisation on the stage and the example for that is SoulEducation in Montreux 03, But Just Another Story is also a great music to do it..i tink if they want..they can play that music for 20 minutes Talking about Music..Jazz,Rock,Balads(half the man),instrumental!
TWM This is lots of diferent from the another ones! Well we continue with instumental musics, and where is the Jazz?Well not on this Album..is true this got some Disco: Cosmic Girl and Alright are greats Don't know how to define the all album..maybe pop! Also got balads..ant they are GREAT!Well but i tink we continue with Free Jazz , Twm song is the best for that!
SYNK Rock, mixed with this new electronic sounds..not so much as in AFO,Canned Heat is a Dance music no more we can say!Maybe in this album there is some influence of Funk! And soul!
AFO Also a "Danceble" Album..the remixs of Little L and Love Foolosophy make history in the discos! This is a Funk album...maybe is the second part of SYNK but much more electronic,Soul, and again in the concerts the more rock preformances! Also got that great acoustic/balad songs
Well as u can see they have different styles in all the albums! _________________ hooked up |

You can see Jamiroquai doing Acid Jazz again when cows gets the ability to fly... hehehheh
Forget Acid Jazz, jay is now thinking in rock... remember he said "We are going to hear more guitars in the new album", and rock means guitars, a lot of them... maybe Jay's having problems with his dogs, girlfriend, maybe with his cars or something but he's mad!!! All the people wants Acid Jazz and Funk, but he wants to use his computers...
That's the problem when a band becomes comercial... and JMQ is the best example of a comercial band... _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

I'm all for more rock in the Jamiroquai fold, but if they turn into pop-rock crap like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, or New Found Glory, I'm gonna be really ticked off. If they want to be more rock, I'd try fusing funk with some essence of Green Day or Velvet Revolver....
And as for JK being mad, well, if you lost your driving license, continued to get a beatdown in the tabloids, and not being able to find someone who truly knows you....I think you'd be mad too. I would. Let's see what happens. I for one would like to see an edgier Jamiroquai. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. I'll be happy if Jamiroquai maintain the sound of Shoot the Moon... _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!
