Jamiroquai Info: A Journey Behind The Scenes (Part III)
Hello Jamirotalkers,
I just finished the last part of this series of posts I decided to call 'Journey Behind the Scenes', featuring facts and pieces of information about the albums, songwritting, band members and curiosities in general. Because is like that, a journey that I like to take everytime I read an interview or an article.
(Journey Behind... Part I: http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1387 )
(Journey Behind... Part II: http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1945 )
Journey Behind... Part III:
-Seven semi-trailers were needed to move the production equipment in AFO tour.
-Jay said that 'King For A Day' was basically written about Zender, because that's what he was .''He betrayed us basically. He decided to quit the band and then went around telling tabloid papers that he left because I was greedy. "From childhood, I've always known that you have to look out for yourself or people will shit on you," adds Kay thoughtfully. "And when someone jeopardises my plans - I go into total overdrive."
-Jay had dinner with Mick Jagger in 1997.
-The Synkronized album covers were done in Jay's garden.
-'The Space Cowboy is just an analogy for getting high. The Space Cowboy is that little voice inside of you that gets you going'
-Nick Fyffe recorded 7 tracks for Synkronized. Only 4 are on the album.
-Jay on Nick Van Gelder "Nick's focus and attitude weren't right. He was filling all the space, you can hear it on the last album... everything was rushed... it's as simple as that.".
-The brother of the Young Disciples' Femi Tunji, became Jamiroquai's first manager.
-On six of the tracks of Synkro, Toby played the bass parts on synthesizer.
-The first tune Stuart Zender did was Too Young To Die and not When You Gonna Learn (Andrew Levy plays in it).
-Jay said that he doesn’t keep most of the hats of the shows because they are only part of his stage character (he tries to keep a couple so if he ever has kids, he can hand them over to them and they can sit and laugh and they go ‘that’s what my dad used to wear on stage … what an idiot ..’).
-There has been talk of the Dust Brothers remixing "Virtual Insanity," and of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Dave Navarro and Chad Smith working on "Alright."
-The AFO hat is inspired by the Native American headgear.
-Jay developed a bad throat infection because of the humidity in Thailand during AFO tour.
-A guy came up to Jay during the filming of the Love foolosophy video and suggested what he should wear. So he told him, ‘This is my 26th video!’.
-Funny thing: during an interview (June 1999) before the Synkronized tour begins, Jay was talking about his house and their rooms: 'After a while you need to find a space, a corner of the earth that smiles at you'. He had that lyric idea since then!
-Jamiroquai is the third most selling artist in the 90's in the UK.
-During the shooting of the Deeper Underground video Jay cut his hand. (And a pelvic injury but Jay said: "to be honest I think I did it shagging - she rides me into the ground, that Van Outen girl").
-Jay was hoping to sing a duet with Stevie Wonder for Synkronized, and that Quincy Jones and Roy Ayers were going to work with them.
-He was also hoping Busta Rhymes to remix 'Supersonic'
-Wounded Buffalo is how Denise Van Outen used to call Jay. Then he used that name for his own remix of Little L.
-Good luck!: Jay was supposed to be under the World Trade Center (a designers clothes shop -Century 21-) that 11/9 morning "was on my list of things to do that morning. I could easily have been there at 9am".
("I nearly changed my flight, so I'd have been flying out of New York that morning. And the last to arrive in New York that morning were my entourage. They must have flown past the terrorists. It was all too close for comfort; it got to that 'I've gotta ring my mum' stage. Frightening. I wanted to get very drunk.")
-Jay came up with 'Space Cowboy' dawdling around the house one day, humming a tune.
-One day after the release of 'Virtual Insanity' the headlines in the newspapers read about Dolly being cloned.
-For the bassist audition in 1999, along with Nick, Steve Lewinson (Spice Girls), Nick Cohen (Incognito) and Paul Lancaster (The Honeyz) were all up for it.
-Nick Fyffe was born blind in one eye.
-All the lyrics of TROTSC were written after the music, according to Stuart Zender.
-For AFO, they had to discard 10-12 tunes ('all of which are great and If I'd had my way 3 or 4 of those would be on the album instead of ones that are. But ultimately Jay has final say' says Toby Smith).
Well... there you go. This is the last part of it by now. Hopefully when new interviews come, I will make a 4th part but not for now.
Hope you like it.
'Last night turned to daylight... and a minute became a day'

Nice posts diego...always entertaining!!
However, there is one version of 'Alright', which i used to have, which is a remix by chad smith and dave navarro (or so it said in the mp3 file)...do u think there actually is a dust brothers remix of Virtual Insanity? I wish there was..but i dunno.. _________________

I thank you for your ingenuity and consideration for our 'need to know' details about Jamiroquai and "Sir" JK.
I seriously believe that the information that you have listed along with Inaki's 'Tune Stories" should be collated into a document/book/pamphlet for purchase.
Who would help us accomplish this ??? I am sure that both you, Diego, and Inaki (Jamirokaki) would be willing and enthusiastic for this.

Hello there,
Thanks you all! I'm glad that you like it! I know I enjoyed doing it a lot.
Hey Little H, by any chance do you have Jamirokaki's email? I would like to put in touch with him.
Oh and a little one (you probably know this, is not that old). 'Black Devil Car' was going to be called 'Black Devil Wife'; in one interview during November 2003 for Tense Magazine.
'But all you ever say is catch me if you can...'
