JAY KAY DEFENDS MAROON 5
JAMIROQUAI frontman JAY KAY has rejected accusations rockers MAROON 5 have stolen his musical style, insisting all contemporary artists borrow old sounds.
The VIRTUAL INSANITY star admits the ADAM LEVINE-fronted hitmakers - who have garnered a massive worldwide fanbase since the release of their 2003 album SONGS ABOUT JANE - are producing tracks similar to his own past compositions, but he refuses to be bitter.
Instead, Kay understands it's impossible for 21st Century acts to create totally original tunes - something he failed to achieve himself.
He says, "I've only heard three tracks and one of them is a bit like Virtual Insanity, I've got to say. I don't know whether they're ripping me off, they probably just like the same stuff.
"I always get told that I'm still STEVIE f**king WONDER - I can never be me." _________________

Hello,
Hehe, yeah, exactly the same kind of thinking I was expecting from good ol' JK . This kind of still illustrates the core ignorance of the music media, throwing blind musical comparisons that bands that come up with a original and catchable sound. Maroon 5 are to me the first real shot of "white boy R&B" since Remy Shand & Toploader ( If you don't know who 'Toploader' are, be thankful you don't know them ! ). I just wish someday the music journos take more time to do research before questioning in such a ill manner. Anyhoo... thanks for the cut n paster Funkynic, much appreciated ! Thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________

Hello Jamirotalkes,
Yes, I always thought Jay was not going to attack them, cause Maroon 5 is living the same as JMQ, ripping off someone else's track. JMQ ripping off Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5 ripping off JMQ.
Good for Jay, and he is right, one of the songs sounds like 'Virtual Insanity'... but come on, doesn't 'Hella Good' from No Doubt sound like 'Deeper'??
'Apocaliptic doom'

I always thought people were crazy when they insisted Maroon 5 stole from Jamiroquai. Infact, I never even heard it until I heard others talking about it. And even after, nothing really stuck out. It only sounded like inspiration to me, and that's what half of music is.
People need to relax a bit, in my opinion.
Sidenote, btw, I loved Toploader. Have both their albums. I was sad when they broke up. _________________
