How you got into JMQ....the exact details.....please
Hi folks! I would like to start this new topic to find out how everyone first got a hold of a Jamiroquai CD,,, and what went down.
Here's mine:
I was a at local LA based bands' show, (to be exact, Mt Baldy Lodge around early 1995)
One of the female backing vocalist's for that band gave my friend the CD's
and of course I taped them ---- EOPE and RTSC disc's and, at the time all I was listening to was the Grateful Dead and James Brown.
I was just so amazed at what I heard, nothing like it before!
What really got me hooked was the Didgeridoo sound, and the funky bass lines. (in fact, soon after I made two didg's out of pvc pipe so I could learn)
To this day I haven't found any other group who has dedicated more effort into making thier music danceable and listenable and still manages to change it up once and a while when they perform live.
The extensive bootlegs are also a must, because most commercial groups don't allow audio taping and therefore don't have the kind of following that create such robust forums such as this!!!!!!
We are a unique bunch of fans that are not immune to the rest of the crappy music that is out there today.......so cheers everyone.... looking forward to hearing your posts! peace. JGrizz |

Grizz,
greeting from Minneapolis man. It's always good to see more and more U.S. Jamiroquai fans on here (not that y'all in the rest of the world don't matter, but there aren't many U.S. Jam fans). I got into Jamiroquai about the way 9 out of every 10 people in America discovered Jamiroquai: Virtual Insanity. Unlike most other people in the U.S. though, I love their other music, and I don't dismiss them as a "one-hit wonder" lol. Lata! _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like... Yeah I agree not many U.S. fans ....... and yes Virtual Insanity was definitely the reason so many others found them I'm sure, and it's too bad because that is what most people think of " oh that guy" JK "that one song-virtual insanity" Hopefully we will see them here in the states soon!!!!!!! |

I was in a record shop looking for some albums, and i saw a beautiful

i remember i said: ohh this albums looks great! but i said too: WHAT A HELL IS THIS GUY?? (imagine, in the year 2002.... god....), i really liked his pair of Adidas! hehehe
i bought the album, and when i inserted the disc into the car CD player, i remember when Feel so Good started... i was excited cos i was listening to electronic funk tunes.... searching on the net i realized they had 5 albums... and i bought the other four! all at the same time! i remember when i took the albums, the guy on the cage was , 4 albums??? you're crazy, and for the same artist??? HEHEH MAN YOUR CRAZY! i suppose he thought....
then i realized i was a fan! and here i am! writing to you all my story... and i'm waiting (or still waiting) for the new album!!

My story:
Ever since i was 3, i used to listen to singers/bands like George Benson, James Brown, U2, Brothers Johnson, KC & The Sunshine Band, Ray Charles (RIP), Santana and, of course, Earth, Wind & Fire. I still love these artists, and love their music, but when i was about 12, i knew that there MUST have been something better out there.
then, my sister (at the time 8, in 2001) decided to have a disco birthday party. At the time i had the internet, but no cd burner, so what we did was that we videotaped select clips from our Video Hits (kinda like MTV but on saturday and sunday mornings).
On that saturday morning, i was taping "Dust Me Selecta" by Gerling (anyone remember that?), then it went to a commercial break, but it only went for 30 seconds. I walked off to get some breakfast from the kitchen. Remember that this was early August 2001.
Then, on it came. The opening for Little L. I ran back tot he remote, bowl of cereal in one hand, and hit Record on my remote.
I just stood there in awe of the music. It was amazing. I had never heard anything like it before! The bass, the guitar, the lyrics. It was fantastic!
Then they played a "Greatest Hits of the Past", and it was Cosmic Girl. I was still in shock from Little L, then they showed the clip of CG. It was amazing too!!!!!!!!!
Almsot like what FunkEducation did, i went to a local CD dealer on the same day and went to the lady in the store and said "Hey, do you have any 'Jam-ie-row-quay'"? I didn't know how to say it, but the lady was more than helpful in getting all 4 of the previous albums for me (i later found out that she had a whole stack of JMQ records on sale for $50 for the lot ), and the albums set me back a tidy $90 AUD.
I went home, and chucked all of the CDs into my dad's 5-disc CD turntable. I crancked it up. Oh the sound. WYGL, BYM, TROTSC, VI, Canned Heat, it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now i'm stuck here! |

Now it's my turn, even if i told it several times!
Just few words for John!
Well, it was in 1993 and for my 18 party, the DJ, who just come back from London, put some JMQ records all nite long! A very surprise for me and for all my guests: i never heard something like that: a very good sound which captured me and my hearth!
The day after i went to the record shop and bought it!
Irony of the destiny: the same DJ made the "ouverture" when JMQ went in Lecce!
That's all... _________________

That's great everybody........It's amazing how one could go out and buy all of the albums (even after only hearing AFO)
There just isn't any other group that can manage that! That is still alive, anyway.
And FRA THANKS for posting, it's good to hear everyone's story, even if they told it before.
peace. |

well, i didn't like listening to the radio or watching music channels. mi dad did. i remember the first jamiroquai video i saw was deeper underground. of course i didn't understand a word (i couldn't speak english at all), but i liked it because i was a huge fan of godzilla .
i started liking and watching music channels in january-february 2002 (Love Foolosophy's Era). but everytime i saw MTV or MuchMusic, it was on the first position in the top 20s, top 10s and top 5s. so i was a bit angry with "that bloke!" (i thought jamiroquai was jay kay because i had only seen two videos in which he was the only member of the band shown).
but on the 17th of june (at 7pm ) i saw a top 10 called countdown and the host said "and in the the 10th position we have Jamiroquai with their last video: Corner Of The Earth". i sighed and thought "ok, it's in the 10th position, at least it's not on the 1st, and if you change channel maybe you'll miss some other video you may like". so i sighed again and watch it. when the video finished i was like , really shocked!! and crying of joy ! that was the sweetest sensation i've ever felt in my whole life! and after that i started to find out about jamiroquai (and discovered that it was not a guy, but a band) and to buy the cds (i bought the original ones later, because i couldn't afford them at first, but yesterday i bought TROTSC and TWM and now i've got all of them originals ),and well, the rest is history... _________________

Well...
I always liked the Song "Virtual Insanity" but never bothered with venturing more into Jamiroquai. When my bf and I moved in together he brought his CD collection along and had Travelling Without Moving with him. I listened to the album a fewtimes but never really got into it.
Then in late 2001 I was watching the episode of the Naked Chef where he spent a day cooking for Jay Kay and the band. While he was cooking, they were playing Love Foolosophy in the studio. The song opened my eyes to JMQ so I decided to put in TWM again, and to my surprise, I started to really like it. I bought AFO soon after, and then eventually followed it up with the rest of them.
JMQ became one of my favorite bands almost instantly. And now that I'm living in Sweden, I only HOPE they'll make it to Stockholm next tour! _________________

Gah! Virtual Insanity Sorry. Just one of those things. Just like I always end up saying "Space Odyssey" instead of Funk Odyssey. I get it all twisted in my head.
Plus, it's late, I'm tired, and still recovering from going out last night _________________

I liked Virtual Insanity and Canned Heat, but I didn't get around to buying an album until Funk Odyssey was released. As many of you know, the States received AFO on 9/11. I got it a couple of days later at a Best Buy near St. Louis, MO. The album took my thoughts off the chaos....it wasn't the same Jamiroquai, but as a music fan, I was in my 'techno' phase, so I took to it like a duck to water. My dad saw the CD and went, "What the hell has he got on his head now?"
Over the past three years, I've grabbed the rest of the catalog. I haven't looked back since. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. it all started when i was 17..i was playing around with my then-bass at this one studio in my hometown..and then some guy came in and just watched me...i stared at him and gave him a try-to-be-friendly smile..and then suddenly he uttered the words.."ahhh ko ni macam stuart zenderlah" which translated to english meaning ahh you're trying to be stuart zender right?"..i got confused.."stuart ape?" which mean stuart who?...and then he explained about stuart zender and jamiroquai...well maybe because i wore a snowcap at that time reminded him of stuart zender..
and then the name "stuart zender" kinda stuck in my head...i kinda like the "zender" part coz i thought it was a cool name..then i started to made a frequent visit to the record store and the lady who worked there is a big jmq fan...she gave this really "detail information" bout jamiroquai and suggesting me travelling without moving...i was HOOKED in instant..and stuart zender really really really HIT me big time...
p/s: i am nowhere near stuart zender...i wish i am _________________ Selamat Pagi Dunia |
