how was the name jamiroquai formed?
ok for so long now ive heard so many storys like........
"Jay Kay is locked up during a few months, in order to give rise to his expensive project, it is thus in a small room of Ealing that Jamiroquai takes form. Influenced by the b-boys graffiti, Jay Kay draws the logo emblematic of the group and finds an adequate name which combines sonority Indians, with the name "iroquai" and the concept of "jam", inherent in the funk and the jazz, two of the underlying influences of Jamiroquai. His mother helps him to design the hats which will make the reputation of the group. This project is not other than an immediate extension of his personality." - thats what jamiroquoise translated in the jamiroquai a to z book
and then there the interveiw i think diego posted where it says that jay kay was really stoned or drugged up and he just thought of it
which one was it??????????? _________________

Hello,
Well, I doubt JK would have a elongated "moment of clarity" to last long enough to come up with Jam's name and logo, but I can answer your question . The cut N paste of you put up is 50% right, but the root word of "Quai" is derived from the Iroquoi Indians that are native to New York State, and in the linear notes of Jam's first album EOPE, JK says, "I have the upmost respect for them". As for the infamous Jamiroquai logo, that was originally came up with when JK put on one of his old hats with the horns and posed in front of a light, and the shadow that was displayed was outlinned and saved! Hope that somewhat answers your question Todd, thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,

It is sad (and also somewhat hilarious maybe) to find those sites that tell the origin of the name to be like.. "Jay kay likes to jam and then he used to like iroquois.. " And about iroquois I mean the hair style And that hairstyle implies to punk music. How wrong is that. Very. _________________ kite carrier (geuze)
