Twat
I was just watching 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' (British TV Comedy show) tonight, and the host said that there is a straight line that can be drawn between Stevie Wonder and Jamiroquai.
He then pulled out a sign that read:
Stevie Wonder ----> Jamiroquai ----> Twat
which made the audience laugh. Pretty mean if you ask me. Is this how Jay Kay is going to be treated on coming back into the spotlight this year? _________________

Thing is, cheap digs at someone that's good or different is what it's all about, that's what makes people laugh. To be honest, I don't think JK would be too bothered about it if he knew I think he will stay EXACTLY as he wants himself to be... I don't think he would give too much of a sh!t about what others think. _________________ By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II - Now legally Licenced to navigate the Public Highways again.

I totally agree with you, serge, he will stay EXACTLY as he wants himself to be and he won't give too much of a sh!t about what others think. but my mum and i think that is really unfair how the tabloids and the media treat Jay if we compare that with the way they treat, for example, robbie williams. jay is the "prat in the hat" while robbie is the "king midas". is that because jay's music is less commercial and more spiritual? or what? _________________

Well, I think there's mainly 2 reasons:
1)Yes, because it's less commercial/less mainstream/more different, so people think it's funny/clever to say bad things about it.
2)All media nearly always try so say negative things about all celebrities because it sells the show/magazine/newpaper. The reason for that is because ordinary people want to see celebrities humiliated so that they (the ordinary people) can feel better about themselves. For example, if nice photos of JK looking clean on the red carpet would attract less interest than photos of him where he's pissed/drugged, in a fight etc because they show him on a much lower lever, so more ordinary people will want to see them. This is the main reasoning behind many newspapers/magazines as admitted by them.

great point Serge! the media's power is scary if you think about it. they can manupulate a celebrity's image just like that. sigh.

I always thought of it as "meaning 2",
The noun twat has 2 meanings:
Meaning #1: a man who is a stupid fool
Meaning #2: obscene terms for female genitals

The sign was not referring to Jay Kay being a twat or Stevie Wonder being a twat. Mark Lamarr the presenter had earlier read a quote from Peter Andre about his song Insania saying that it has got a bit of stevie wonder in it and jamiroquai influence through it. So basically he was saying that his song had the influence of stevie and Jamiroquai in it but it didn't cuz it woz crap. The sign was saying Peter Andre was a twat.
Hope this clears it up.

that's right too. hence the term, "so, did you twiddle her twat?"
crude, but slightly funny. |
