New album - what do we expect?
I was chatting to one of my freinds the other day , who is a fellow Jamiroquai fan and we were discussing what we thought the new album would contain. I've heard a clip of Black Devil Car, which i think sounds fantastic. I think what the new album will contain is more funky disco songs which will i think will be great as it shows Jay is keeping up with the times. I think this shift was evident in A Funk Odyssey with tracks like Little L, Love Foolosophy and Do it like we used to do. Yet i hope Jay keeps the powerful songs like Black Crow.

What are your hopes for the new album? A Funky disco, up to date kind of music, or a more Acid Jazz approach?

Thanks

well lista, i hate the song "destitute illusions" and some of the songs on the album Synkronized aren't that good. and that is an opinion, not a statement.

i reckon that jay will go back to the EOPE days. if he doesn't then ill be dissappointed and we don't need another techno band.

for second time i agree with you... i don't care about the new album (for all i've seen or listened)... if Jay wants rock and computerized funk... well that's his problem... i will buy the album... but that's all... i'll be interested in old stuff... and i agree when you talk about destitute illusion... ok, for me is a nice song... but man, c'mon, compare it with Music of the Mind, Journey to Arnhemland, Didjital Vibrations... but for me Synkronized's a nice album... prefer it as the new album... let's see the new cd... maybe i'm wrong...

hav you ever heard cosmic girl? those are real strings compared with Main Vein... for example... i think he's gonna be still using the same samples for strings, and then Mr. Johnson play them live with his keyboards... as he did for some of the AFO live tracks..

Perhaps I should have qualified that to be "real string sounds" as opposed to synth strings. Good sampled strings from something like the Peter Siedlaczek or Miroslav Vitous collections sound great and are a whole lot cheaper than classical session musicians.

i dunno about that.... i think that synkronized was a HUUUUUGE jump for the band, going from real natural music (ie no effects and no weird keyboard combos) to almost techno music, and not alot of people liked it.

a funk odyssey sounds excellent because instead of weird keyboard sounds they just distorted the bass (guitar) a bit and the lead guitar too.

just listen to "you give me something" or "little l" as if you've never heard it before. they sound great. the riffs on that are to kill for.

and "Love foolosophy" is totally natural. sounds great.

but i think that "Dynamite" will continue on with this: just a bit of distortion in the bass/lead guitar, nothing overboard, no techno tracks (or even no "twenty zero one" style tracks) and there might be more "corner of the earth". excellent.

Matters of taste. But I must say too that AFO is not as good as the others, even Synkronized is better in my opinion. And while AFO still is a great album, it just would have been better. LL, YGMS, etc. are good tracks but they have this plastic sound and it bothers me a bit. On Synkronized there were more wide groove on the faster tracks, for example Where do We Go From Here. What a masterpiece Smile

I agree with y'all for the most part. AFO has some good tracks, but not great. I mean, Love Foolosophy is better live I think, and I can't stand that really shallow sounding drum beat. What happened to really thick musical lines for the whole band? It seems like it's kind of taken a back seat. And don't get me started on Twenty Zero One. I know all the european fans like it, but it doesn't do it for me so much. Synkronized is not my favorite album, but when I listen to it without prejudice, I love some of those fat, funky tracks, like Where Do We Go From Here? And Canned Heat is well put together. Compare that with Little L. Little L is really catchy, really dancy, but it's just not as complicated, and I like Jamiroquai best when it has a little meat on its bones.

I think AFO is a generally excellent album, I can listen to it and enjoy it without having to skip or get bored of any of the tracks. The futuristic/electronic sound of some of the tracks are excellent, even the slower sound of Black Crow and Picture Of My Life blend in well to create a fantastic album. Whereas Synkronized has brilliant tracks (Canned Heat, Black Capricorn Day, Supersonic), but unfortunately I find Destitute Illusions, Butterfly, Where Do we Go From Here all really average, and the album doesn't really 'flow' for me like any of the others do Confused It's not an album that grabs me like the other four do.

Anyway ( Laughing ) as for the new album I don't know what to expect, although "Black Devil Car" sounds fantastic even though only 28 seconds of it are available! Wink
