The AUSTRIAN gig from June, 9th
Hello Jamily!
Yesterday in the evening I had the pleasure to stand
in the 2nd row of the Austrian Jamiroquai gig in
WIESEN, which is a WONDERFUL place for
open-air-festivals in Burgenland, eastern Austria
("somewhere in the middle of nowhere"
http://www.wiesen.at )
What can I say: JAY and the band did a phantastic
performance!!!
The start of the gig was supposed to be at 8pm, but
they only started at a quarter past 9pm. I guess it
must have been because they finished watching the
F1-Grand Prix from Canada (btw, Nick Fyffe wore a
Ferrari-T-Shirt and Jay was quite pleased about that!)
Everyone seemed to be in a great mood although it was
also raining in between. To be honest I don't know
anymore the detailed setlist, but it was quite similar
to the usual 2001-setlists. (Maybe someone else can
hand it in?)
I don't want to lose my time in describing you their
musical performance in detail except it was SOOOO
GREAT!! I think more funny are some of my impressions
about Jay’s humorous and funny way to communicate with
the audience…(in other words: his dirty jokes! )
In the beginning Jay joked about the "great and
sunny weather" that they had in Verona on Saturday. He
said that "certain people" (Sony?) had told him before
to film the DVD in Italy in June due to the fantastic
"blue skies" there would be... So in the end he was
"very happy" that at least he could play on an Sunday
night in Austria with a dark and rainy sky (of course
he said all that in a very sarcastic, but funny way!)
Jay found out that there were a lot of "kids" in the
audience and he warned them that it is not good for
them to be at a Jamiroquai gig because he is a very
naughty guy...
In the little break before COTE he gave the advice
that "now is some time to build your drugs"...
His silver-hat got broken and a piece of it fell
down to the audience. The girl that picked it up was
invited to the stage to dance with him while they were
performing "Bad Girls". However, she seemed to be so
overwhelmed and irritated that Jay asked her "Are you
druged?"
Jay picked up a joint and smoked it ("as usual")
(generally he smoked a lot in that show)...
Jay ran, jumped, danced, laughed as I have never
seen him before! He also left the stage several times
to touch our hands. When a guy from the audience
shouted "Jay, give me some water!" he took a bottle of
water, put it in front of his pe.is and pressed it
together so that a lot of people got wet As he
was climbing around somewhere close to the
loudspeakers, he had to pass by a metal tube that he
took in between his legs to make some explicit
movements with his hands on it....
Almost at the end of the gig Nick Fyffe "needed to
piss" (as Jay said), so they had to make a break. As
soon as Nick left the stage, Jay started to joke "I’m
sure he just goes for a wank!"...
So, all in all it was very funny for me to see them
(or should I say him?) again after I saw them back in
Feb/95 in Vienna. From my point of view, the audience
is for about 80% different as it was back in 95. Of
course, there were no horns anymore, no Stuart, no
Wallis and now even no Toby anymore (except Derrick
and Sola), BUT I have to say the NEW band DID A
FABULOUS JOB and everyone really seemed to enjoy being
on stage!!
Thank you for reading my boring mail!!
Greeting from Austria, Arnold

What do you mean BORING MAIL? I wish I could have been there!
So no way it's boring. I always wonder what stunts Jay does on his shows anywhere else than the Netherlands. In the Netherlands I think he's very quite. No one got to dance with him on stage. (I WOULD DIE TO DO THAT!)
But on the other hand, when I shouted that I would love to have some water, he kicked the bottle of Evian (which I still have) like a prof. footballplayer towards me. It fell in front of me (I was standing front rowe) and the security told me that I could get it after the show, because during the show, there were no bottles allowed. And I was so f*ckin' thursty(?).
My wish is to be at a concert in England sometime. I really wanted to go to Carling, but it's hard to get there when you're not living in the UK.
Well thank you for reading MY boring mail! _________________
