CONSPIRACY THEORY????
I say this half-jokingly, but maybe there's a little merit to this...

I have remarked in other areas of this website that Napolean Dynamite has made people in the U.S. think Jamiroquai is a different kind of "one-hit wonder". Before people would say when asked about the band "Oh, that's Virtual Insanity guy right?", well the new, and probably the more popular response now is, "I like that Napolean Dynamite song".

Well the reason I bring this up, is notice what the name of Jamiroquai's new album is: "Dynamite". Since the movie has brought Jamiroquai a few more U.S. fans because of "Canned Heat", do you think maybe... just maybe that the people from Sony and the producers of N. Dynamite got together, and said "Name your album Dynamite, or we'll find a different song for Napolean to dance to in the movie".

As dumb as it sounds, it has brought Jamiroquai the most fame in the U.S. since Virtual Insanity. They're not becoming huge overnight again, but people in the U.S. know about them again because of the movie. If Jamiroquai was looking for a way to re-connect with U.S. fans before an upcoming album, putting your song in one of the most memorable parts of the movie could help that. Im just sayin, maybe the producers struck a deal with Sony or Jamiroquai to put "Canned Heat" in the movie instead of some other song to some other group.

I know it would be hard to imagine Napolean dancing to some other song during that part of the movie, but I bet they were considering a few different dance songs to put in instead of "Canned Heat" when making the movie.

Ok, go ahead and tell me how ridiculous this sounds now...

It didn't blow up in the box office, but its gained almost like a huge cult following in the U.S. Kinda like the movie Office Space. Not many people saw it in the theatres, but there are so many people that love that movie, and can recite so many lines from it. Napolean Dynamite is the same way.

Yeah, I'd say the movie is pretty big here. Cult following.

Anyway, I think perhaps the movie had something to do with naming the sixth album Dynamite, but I doubt Jamiroquai solicited the movie to use their song. More likely I think the moviemakers came and wanted to use the song, and because it's such a memorable scene it may have influenced Jamiroquai name the album such.

Hello there,

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I don't live in the US, so I can't really talk about that. What I do think is that there has to be some relation between the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" and the album. Not exactly like you describe it Jaminneapolis, but I'm sure there must be some estrategy there.

I found this by the way:

Quote:
British funk act Jamiroquai will issue album number six, Dynamite, on May 24. No word on whether the album's title is a nod to the film "Napoleon Dynamite," which prominently featured Jamiroquai's song "Canned Heat" during one of the film's most memorable scenes. ...

But Im sure when the interviews come, somebody will ask this, trust me.

so are u saying that more people in the US now knows about jamiroquai because of that movie and Canned heat??

funny, caus i remember correctly 5 years ago during the synkronized era, MTV US and most radio station wouldnt play canned heat since it was too disco and also they said that the song was not marketable .

And now everyone in the US loves it just because of one movie.

actually yes, crazyjack Wink
I was playing "Planet Home" when a girl randomly walked into my dorm room and asked if it was Jamiroquai. Why? "It sounds like that Napoleon Dynamite song." I wouldn't say the movie has made Jquai big here again, but at the least it has maintained a place for the band in US pop culture,

I think it's true. Because of N. Dynamite, people know about Jamiroquai again. And U.S. teens are really getting to know Jamiroquai for the first time through this movie. Teens are probably too young to remember Virtual Insanity. But if you ask a person in the U.S. "Do you like Jamiroquai?". Before N. Dynamite, they'd say "those are the guys that did Virtual Insanity right?". Because Jamiroquai is pretty much considered a "one-hit wonder" in the U.S. No one in America cares how popular the band is in the rest of the world, so in the U.S they are considered a "one-hit wonder".

But! now with Napolean Dynamite being such a success, and "Canned Heat" being a big part of the movie, that what the people know Jamiroquai now for. It's bringing some attention back to the band in the U.S., but I hate that it took that movie to do that. Im already dreading seeing them here (that is if they tour in the U.S.), and hearing almost every say "play Canned Heat!" It will happen. Seriously.

Hello Jamirotalkers,

I just found this

Quote:
The name "Napoleon Dynamite" is a pseudonym used by singer Elvis Costello for his 1986 album, "Blood and Chocolate." Although there is a resemblance, it is coincidence because it was unknown until it was already in production.

for those not in the know, pseudonym means a fictitious name.

still don't see the link tho.
