does anybody truley understand "twenty zero one"?
i listen to this song alot when i visit my afo album frequently... but i listen to the lyrics over and over and i just cant get what he is trying to say....
2001 - Baby where you been
It's pornographic, Internet, traffic on my screen
2001 - She's just a maniac
It's not for me but my baby really needs a crack
2001 - Don't want the sex to stop
I took a pill now it's killing me to keep it up
2001 - I know what's goin' on
You wanna take my soul and change it for another one
2001 - Those liquid crystal eyes, they really suit you honey
Let me get them in your size
2001 - By 2032 you can be me, and with a little luck
I can be you
2001 - Let me bless you son
Help you believe with my semi-automatic gun _________________

i think it's quite clear, it describes a totally non natural world.

that's what I like about this song. it's the most unnatural song Jamiroquai have ever done. and i deals exactly with the new technologies.
right now people are trying to get "more beautiful" with plastic surgery and pills and whatever. maybe one day "by 2032)
you can change your complete body into an other "host"...

Jay explained some of this points in an interview...
1) He said that Internet it's sex, sex and sex again. That Internet is not completely bad, but there are sites of child pornography, how to make bombs, etc. Besides, he's half for and half against the MP3 download sites. For, because he thinks that if you can't find a track you can find it in this sites, and against, because, as the musician he is, it makes him lose lots of money. According to him, Internet has received good and bad signals, and it's here to stay for a long time.
3) Obviously here he is refering to the erection pills like Viagra. He says that if you are young and have problems of erection, well, it's ok if you take them, because you're young, and sex is something important at this age. But if you are like 70 years old, it's stupid to take these pills, because you have probably had enough sex in your entire life, so it's something like "come on man! what else do you want?".
5) He didn't talk about this in the interview, but I think he's talking about the plastic surgeries, the faked and empty beauty. e.g. I'd like to have Nicole Kidman's eyes. Ok! no problem! I can have a pair of contact lenses (which I think are the liquid cristal eyes he is talking about in the song), or I'd like to have Angelina Jolie's breasts so I have a plastic surgery, or the same but with Britney Spears' nose.
7) "Oh, so you don't believe in my religion? Just a gun against your head, and you surely will"
I hope this was useful for you _________________

Hello Jamirotalkers,
I think 'Twenty Zero One' is one of the finest protest songs of Jamiroquai, and their lyrics are fantastic. They are just what they say, there's nothing to think about so much.
In an interview (by the way Flor, great post you did there) he said that maybe is the second part of 'Virtual Insanity'. Both songs talk about almost same subjects, but I think this one is more raw and direct.
'2001, by 2032 you can be me and with a little luck I can be you'

Thanks Diego . And I think the same as Jay: this is like Virtual Insanity's second part, but more raw. I think this is because the situation is getting worse, and if you try to make people understand that what they're doing is wrong, you have to tell this in a more raw and direct way.
oh, when you gonna learn to stop it going on _________________

Ihave a similar sight flor.....for it´s like Virtual Insanaty is more delirius for example as Jay said: "Now every mother can choose the color of her child" and we´re not a millon miles away fro that "; While twenty zero one is like nowadays reallity, more pure to say it some way:
2001 - Let me bless you son
Help you believe with my semi-automatic gun, thats all about terrorism and all that shit goin on in the world because of that, people killing each other because of a belief.
There´s nothing left to do but pray
