Synkronized... why synth bass?
I'm always trying to know more and more about Jamiroquai, and here's a place I surely can rely on ( ).
I wonder why in Synkronized Nick played only 4 tracks, and why they didn't recorded the other tracks with a true bass rather than a synth (Planet Home among all, very interesting riff).
Was it a question of "not-so-much-time-left" before releasing the album?

Two main reasons....
1 - The basslines for every track besides King For a Day, were made by toby smith...
2 - They had a deadline imposed by sony to release the album, wich was supposed to be released at fall of 1998, but was postponed to 1999 due Zender's departure, and the band had already the album halfway done when Fyffe arrived, so in many tracks, the synth bass was the most viable way at the time... _________________ At the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper... |

Jay and Toby said they also wanted to do some synth-bass before but Stuart was inclined to play an actual bass on all the tracks. Also, I think it was a way to make heavier tracks. It definitely sets the mood in a different way.
Whatever the case, Jamiroquai did synth bass better than most - love the sounds in Butterfly, Getinfunky, and Canned Heat.
Anyone know which synths they used? |

I saw in an interview once, that toby comented about the synths they were purchasing and they were looking for some vintage ones, And If i'm not mistaken, they used a Moog synth bass in the album... _________________ At the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper... |

The synth bass in Planet Home is just unique and so heavy. I love this track so much because of the synth bass and the echo they used too.
The same for Butterfly. These 2 tracks are my favourite. |

I agree for Planet Home. Really a nice groove! _________________ there's a stillness in time, which I cannot define, does your heart bleed like mine?

Planet home is a perfect example, and is my favorite track off of the album. |
