i love music like Salsa and Funk, that came from black people, Salsa came from african mixes with New York's beauty Jazz... and my soul is deeply black, and i feel great for that! even when i'm more white as milk! heheheh
|
why do u like it when it coems from black people ive heard some great stuff from white people/intalian people/black people in the sallsa/african/jazz genre..... it shouldnt be about what colour you or your "soul" is its bout what u can produce _________________

wtf? The band was predominantly white because most of the musicians (if not all) were from around the Ealing area of London and as Jay once said 'good musicians are hard to find - it's not because what colour they are'

Think before you write - this come across very racist. He is a person after all.
And soul doesnt have a colour. If you can groove you can groove - regardless of your colour! Quote Stu Zender 'Ages ago on a TV music show someone asked me 'what colour is soul?' I replied 'Soul has no colour. We're all born with the natural ability to express feelings whether musically, artistically, anyway at all, it shouldn't be colour exclusive'
Ontopic
Nick left the band due to musically differences - its thought that he wanted to take their sound in a different direction while the others didnt want to. I beileve he carried on playing with the Ozric Tentacles!? _________________ Bass Transcriptions coming soon! |

I dont really know. In an interview SZ said that he was going in a different direction musically than the rest of the band. But ive also been told by a reliable source that the two had a bit of fisty-cuffs and Nick VG left because of it1?
Who knows... _________________ Bass Transcriptions coming soon! |

i dig nick van gelders work on jamiroquai (both album and live) but for me it was very plane, not so much virtuosity, in opposite derricks gots all the things, he is so precise, and much more virtuoso, i really love the way he plays, and the things he do.
about Mauricio Ravalico, i like it, but i think he does nothing to do with Sola
and coming to the real topic, i think both (nick and mauricio) are in AKIMBO, or i'm wrong?
i think on this band it's nick, mauricio andrew levy and simon bartholomew, all of them have played in jamiroquai in early days.
i'm not sure about all this member son that band, but i'll try to search.....anyway akimbo is one of the best acid jazz bands i heard. _________________

I'm sorry merrsaj, but I don't see any racism here. When Ed was talking about the black soul, he didn't refer literally to the soul, but the soul education. Jay does black music, which was born deep inside the "black souls" Ed is talking about. Black people were the ones who started playing funk and jazz. So they have something special in their souls that made this possible, an innat talent. If you're black your ancestry has genetically left you the black soul. You can be white and have a black soul, like Jay or Joss Stone.
And referring to Wallis, Ed never said he wasn't a person. I know how much Ed admires him, so he'd never said this as a racist comment. _________________

It's true that its thought RnB & Gospel stems from Africans during their time as slaves. But almost everything musical comes from the roots of Jazz, BeBop.
I wan't accusing FunkEducation of being racist, and thats why my comment was 'comes across as...' - I know how things typed on these forums can be mis-understood, especially as written words dont always contain expression or clearly state the true intentions of what the writer is trying to say (especially if you are not writing in your native language).
There's been no harm done and there's no need for anyone to get upset. It's probably a good idea for people to steer away from making posts on Politcal, Racial (etc) issues, eh! As everyone has different opinions and frequently no one is right or wrong. I probably shouldn't have even posted a reply, so my bad.
Thanks to the other guys for the heads up on Akimbo - i'll check them out _________________ Bass Transcriptions coming soon! |
