Jamiroquai special promo gig La Cigale 01 June 2005
Hi,
just back from the gig. Thanks to Orange/WAP for the 4 titckets i was able to buy 2 days before the gig at 16 Euros each. 4 fans were happy of being able to buy the last tickets, and enter the firsts in the venue.
Today the band taped one live song at Canal + headquarters, to be broadcasted at "20h10 Pétantes" (the new shitty TV show that remplaced the FAMOUS "Nulle Part Ailleurs were the bands were playing LIVE - and not pre-recorded) in the next days...
The audience outside was able to hear the band soundchecking around 45 minutes, from 18H15 to 19h00.
The doors opened at around 19h30. The stage of La Cigale was quite small, and despite that Jay made a few impressive dances.
The management had a 10-12 songs setlist around 1 hour before the gig, so it was a confirmation that despite the band was jetlagged (they arrived in Paris from Japan the day before), they planned to play around 1 hour (and not only the "45 minutes for 7 songs" like in Japan.
The band was a bit late, they entered the stage at 21h10, and they played 10 songs, for 65 minutes. The atmosphere was EXPLOSIVE (dynamite ahah), and i must say that the audience was REALLY into the gig, clapping and chanting during every song, even standing up during all the gig.
One DVcam of Orange/WAP filmed a few fans at the entrance, asking them if they liked that gift of beeing able to have a few dozen of tickets a few days before the gig (some ass**les bought dozen the day when the tickets were available on the FNAC/France Billet, adn tried to sold them for x3 or x4 the value... A few fans were STILL searching tickets at the entrance, two girls from UK (?) and a few french fans, tickets were sold 100 Euros on the black market, despite a few policemen were checking that). It did not film the gig.
One DVcam of a TV channel (? MCM, M6 ?, Canal +) filmed a few from outside of the venue, then it filmed from a tripod near the mixing desk a few minutes of the gig.
Another DVcam of another TV channel filmed again a few minutes at the start of the gig.
The band taped with one miniDV at the mixing desk the gig, i did not check if they taped the whole gig (probably they used a 60m tape on LP).
They taped the gig with a DAT (maybe a multichannel DAT ?). Also one guy filmed and took a few photos from the stage after around half the show. Maybe it was one of the channel TV guy.
The gig was 65 minutes long. After the 7 "planned" songs (as i learned from one of the venue employee, 45m WERE planned, BUT if Jay and the band was not too exhausted they will play a few more songs), Jay took between each song a few more minutes to recover, chating with the guitarist and the other members to check what they were doing next.
The "original" setlist planned had 10/12 songs as far i remember, but the order was NOT the one they played.
01 Love Foolosophy
02 Space Cowboy
03 Dynamite
04 Seven Days In Sunny June
05 Alright
06 Feels Just Like It Should
07 Little L
08 Canned Heat
09 Starchild
10 Deeper Underground
Original setlist :
01 Canned Heat
02 Space Cowboy
03 Dynamite
04 Give Hate A Chance
05 Alright
06 Feels Just Like It Should
07 Seven Days In Sunny June
08 Black Devil Car
09 Starchild
No encore was played, the lights were on after around 1 minute of dark.
The band - Jay at least - will record tomorrow the TV show "Tout Le Monde En Parle" with Thierry Ardisson, the TV show after editing will be broadcasted on Saturday evening of the 4th of June. The TV show will be broadcasted by TV5 (international french channel).
See You
Vince

thanks for the info, i hope to see or listen to the concert.
i hate the people who do business with the tickets and fans paying a lot for the tickets! that's real piracy, not to download an album that you will buy the next week!!!!!
and...btw how was the concert itself? _________________

Hi,
yeah you are so right. Since the 60's black market exist, but now, when you see Ebay, my god it is a nightmare. I personally KICKED a scalper from Ebay, he was selling 25 (!!!!! can you imagine ? 25 tickets ???) tickets for that gig, he bought them 17 Euros and he was selling them 49 (!!!) Euros. I bought each with a different Ebay ID, and that's it... He will be banned with 25 negative feedbacks ( )...
The concert itself... Well the band seemed quite jetlagged, quite exhausted (they arrived one day beofre in Paris from Japan - outch jetlag ! - and the taped in the afternoon ONE song, then they get in the venue to soundcheck than play... and tomorrow Jay will be interviewed again in Paris, maybe he will do some other interviews ?)...
So the band decided to play a few more songs, despite the venue was SO HOT (hot because of the WARM atmosphere and the really good crowd i must say). Jay was really wet on stage. He danced quite a lot, and the perfo of the songs were damn good (i mean really). Many solos and jams, really good sound. A few sound saturations due to guitars during two songs. Also Jay spoke to the audience between each track, and he took many hands.I hope he will do again a club show in Paris during the tour...
See You

I had the chance to be there too. I agree 100% with you review funkhadafi : a crowd really up for it, a promo show long enough not to be frustated & a great performance even though the band was jetlagged.
I really enjoyed 3 of the new songs : Dynamite, Feels Just Like It Should (the only one I knew beforehand) & Starchild (really funky with nice background vocals).
And it was just great to see them back in force. Looking forward to the fall european tour & a full lenghth show.
Are there any other promo shows planned in Europe ? |
