Feel So Good Intro... Stolen?
Hello Talkers
I listened the 'New Horizon' album from Isaac Hayes and the intro for "Stranger In Paradise" sounds... almost exactly like the one from Feel So Good, specially the first seconds
Anyone else heard it?

well is this 'new horizon' older or younger than a funk odyssey?
then we will know who stole what! _________________

New Horizon (1977)
Hayes returned to cover tunes, with a ten-minute disco version of "Stranger In Paradise" that's not quite as bad as you'd think. But most of the tunes are still originals, either driving funk ("Moonlight Lovin' (Mènage á Trois)") or ballads ("Don't Take Your Love Away," a pleasant number later recorded by Dionne Warwick). Only five tracks, and they're all too long ("Out Of The Ghetto" is obvious to boot), but his sense of mood and commanding voice ("It's Heaven To Me) are still in evidence. Pitts, Toles and Hall are still around; Bill Purse and Cedric Lawson help Hayes on keyboards, Willie Weeks is on bass, and Daniel Zebulon plays percussion. (DBW)

sounds similar, but it's just wind chimes and a wind effect. wouldn't say it's 'stolen', not nearly as much as the chords for 'alright' (could heaven ever be like this by idris muhammad), 'cosmic girl' (superstrut by deodato), or the general sound and countermelody for 'virtual insanity' (samurai by djavan). there's some other 'borrowed' moments, but as long as it's done in a fresh way, i think it's totally fine. |

Guys Jamiroquai always stoled from MASTERS such as Isaac Hayes or Roy Ayers, Gil Scott Heron and so on... You know, is not only a plagiarism, Jay Kay has been inspired since 1992-3 by soul and funk ('70). _________________

Of course - I never meant it to be something negative. Taking something old and making it fresh is common practice through music. There's no such thing as totally original music. In fact, I like listening to old records then hearing a little riff a modern artist has borrowed and altered. If it worked once, it'll work again. |

Yes it is.
It's like RAP/HIP HOP music... Where everything is stoled. _________________
