Leaking of FJLIS pre-release: good or bad?
hello fellow funksters.
as everyone would know, FJLIS was played pre-release around the world, and even made the a-list on some radio stations a month before the actual release of the single, let alone the album.
when the single was released, it has not done well - here in australia its off the charts (literally) after 3 weeks - and it seems that it would have done better to have just released the song and have the airplay of the song to go along with the release of the single.
does anyone agree or disagree? i just think the new single would have done alot better here if it wasnt played so much so far from the release of the single. |

Well, if everyone else thinks like I do, it was a bad thing. I played FJLIS LOADS when it was released, and I got fully sick of it.
However, the single seems to be doing OK here, so I suppose other people like it. _________________ Fascist.

the single leaking was not good for the chart position. every non-fan who heard the song and band for the first time could look it up on the net and get it.
I did not buy the single too. but I am sure I would have, if I didn't get any possibility to get the song before...
(and before someone gets mad at me for not buying the single; I bought the album! ) |

i also think it was a bad move to airplay it that quick, looking at dynamite sales, but they can mend it starting airplaying seven days now, and releasing as far as they can.... _________________

I think they may need to rush the release for Seven Days...because judging from the looks of the European charts, FJLIS is falling fast. That being said, Funkin reported that Seven Days is already in the top ten in pre-release UK airplay. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. That's true, in EuroTop20 (Mtv) is out of 10 first singles, and either in Topdance Spain (FJLIS is in number and in Topsingles (FJLIS is in number 12) the song is falling fast...
Probably is a bad idea choose for the main single one of the worst songs of the album. I understand that Jay wanted to retourn with a powerful and potent single, but probably Don't give hate a chance could be a better potent single, with more good feeling and less comercial electronic presence. Well, is an opinion. |

Hello,
Yeah, very true they should rush a SDISJ single release for either a mid to late August 2005 . But I don't think the leak could have been stopped, I mean, we're in a online music climate where music are and almost always game for early exposure. I don't think it was the choice of FJLIS that hurt it, just the premature offering of pay downloads that happened to it, and in turn the album. Though SDISJ would have been a more logical 1st single pick, but whatever Sony's advice was, they went with FJLIS, and the new album version really made it a first single. I think all the "edits" that made it the worst song on the album to the bulk of the fans, but hey, different strokes for different folks. Thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,

I think it was positive. Maybe they have chosen the wrong track as 1st single, and it had some rotation on radios a long time before the release in stores. Personally I like the fact in Argentina they are starting to have on rotation on radios "Seven Days In Sunny June", and it's fresh even when it sounds more Jami than "FLJIS". _________________

i don't think so because the album is already available, so if people hears and love the song they will buy the album, and if they do a good release of the single, with any bside or unreleased song...or at least more that 2 remixes people will also get it _________________

i dont think that will happen... SDISJ is a 100000x better song than FJLIS will ever be!
and SDISJ will appeal to more people than FJLIS... SDISJ is such an awwwsumly beautiful constructd piece of music its simply ammazing! and it will do amazing things on the charts! |

I think it´s obvious both tracks are totally diffrent....
For me the strategy was... Put this track as first single (fjlis) and people went like... "wtf is that??... JAMIROQUAI!?!?! OH new jamiroquai stuff coming, gotta pay attention these days, I don´t want to miss their new stuff.. sounds interesting!!!""" ( not meaning they like it actually, but that it called their attention) So now when second single comes out sale will rise amazingly, because of all the expecting audience there is with new single´s wikkedness _________________

Is a possibility, but I think that they have made simply a mistake choosing FJLIS the first single. Probably there's not an estrategy, only a mistake, despite Jamiroquai is either SDISJ and FJLIS, either Mr Moon and Supersonic...But maybe choose the most commercial song of the CD could be err if this song isn't really cool. |
