Jay Kay's style of dancing
I've always been intruiged about what you would call Jay Kay's style of daning. It looks like most of it is composed of b-boy moves, althoughI have my doubts. Is he techically considered a breakdancer or is there another name for the type of style he uses (also reminds me of Moonwalking)?

In an interview Jay called himself a 'Mover', not a 'Dancer'. So i guess there isn't any particular style for the way he dances/moves. Can't remember where it was. Do a search for Mover, you might find a transcript of the interview here

and welcome to jamirotalk Wink

Edit: There ya go Very Happy

Thanks.

Are there any particular names of the "manuvers" this mover makes? Or are they all just erratic? I'm curious...

i don't think he has specific names for his moves. actually when watching him performing live, his moves seem to be rather random Very Happy

Thanks dudes. Didn't know skateboarding had an influence as well. No wonder he skated so well in the "You Give Me Something" video. I thought he trained for that...or something.

Where'd you get that info regarding it being called a "QuaiMove?"

yeah...skateboarding and breakdancing does play a major influences in his moves...back in those early days when he's still a street kid with wallis buchanan...

i forgot where i'd read the interview and not that sure whether it was Jay or someone else said bout the "QuaiMove"...but it did said something bout "QuaiMove"...just i forgot who'd coined it...i assumed it was Jay because it's his move after all...

It seems to me that Jay's "moves" are accentuated with the rhythm of the music and his moves are like a sign language of the music. As that it they are like loud gestures like he would be giving a speech. But since he is delivering a speech of powerful funk, the gestures have to match. The biggest study of this is in the Space Cowboy video.
