Reactions to first live performances of "TYTD"...
buffaloman_B Hello, :bm_b:

Hope everyone had a nice 2cloud9 weekend, mine was OK, mostly overworked! I spent one night watching some of VCDs of past Jamiroquai performances, most of them of early Brit TV (TOTP, The Word, Lulu's Big Show, Live in Munich and many others). I've traded online with some of my new friends for Jamiroquai VCDs. The most interesting performance I watched was from "Lulu's Big Show: New Year's Special" when Jamiroquai performed "Too Young To Die" on TV. It was amusing to see the crowd's reaction to hearing the first song from the flegling young Jamiroquai. JK was dressed in a simple Aztec shirt (Similar to one he wore in the "TYTD" video), and a tight hat, and boy, was J's vocals AMAZING! It was a typical New Year's ballroom setting, Once the song started into it's first chorus, many people in the front row started to move around and converse with each other heavily. Their was a black dude wandering the stage, lightly dancing to the jam presenting itself, I couldn't tell if it was Wallace OR Kofi Kari Kari (Did early percussion for Jamiroquai). Overall, at the end of the performance, the crowd went nuts, and the first chapter of the Jamiroquai legacy was written. Then of course the classic performances commenced on two performances on "Top Of The Pops" in May and March 1993, JK decked out in the Rainbow Ascot Tex-Mex jacket and Mushroom hat 1.0 rumbling and rolling through "TYTD" with the rest of the band all compact on stage, with a notable killer Coon cap (Like Davey Crockett!) being worn my Stu! But the first time Jamiroquai appeared on regular Brit TV, was on the past music show "The Word", before TOTP, where J and company played "TYTD" on a very Art Deco painted set, with the atmosphere of Soul Train (Lots of Young kids dancing around on various levels!), bit of a grainy performance, but still had a impact! Then the rest was history, Jamiroquai had presented itself as the savior from the soon to be pre-90's one hit wonderdom of the music scene but only stay situated in the UK till 97' rolled around at the peak of the BritPop invasion 2! I hate to sound like Jamiroquai historian, but say what I see, and these early performances help me restablish and strengthen my devotion for the band! Thanks for listening, I hope you find this post informative, and the usual props to CosmicMouse & Bear! Peace and take care!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

I wonder if JK will wear that famous jacket when
Jamiroquai returns from the much deserved year
hiatus and grace with the true Return of the Space
Cowboy!

I just had a private discussion with sunrayvibe about the way Jay and the band appeared in these early days. It's amazing how fresh they all were (fresh is not the best word to explain it - in German we would say unverbraucht) And Jays voice is unbelievable stoned

interesting stuff jamirofan, thanks for the info!

that's so cool getting hold of some old skool stuff. are they friggin rare or have i not been looking hard enough? what the f***

out of all those you mentioned, the only one i saw was the one at TOTP '93 (one of my first-ever funkin.net downloads!) the band was so crackin' back then, jay's voice being so loud and crisp and clear and angsty and all...

BTW i think you'd be fine being a jamiroquai historian... it's a very prestigious role, it is Very Happy

.
aaww...jamirofan, are you talking about the performance where JK 's wearing a tight white cap, with a similar shirt, he wore in the vid, "too young to die"? Smile while JK's performing he says something in portuguese/spanish (sorry-what language is it?) correct? is that the performance, you're talking about? if so, then yes i've seen it!

there's also wallis (i think) dancing, too! Smile JK performed so brilliantly, there! he had so much emotion and you could see him, singing his heart out, so loudly! damn, those were the days!!!!

thanx for bringing it up, jamirofan! Very Happy (btw us-what's your REAL name?) Smile
