Sony Brasil releases "Dynamite" (the song).
Oh, what a confusion here... Sony Brasil seems determined to drive the diehard fans completely insane...

Despite seeing FJLIS on MTV Brasil, the song was never "officially" released by Sony. In fact, the first song the label promoted was SDISJ. The track was included in a list of songs that have been added to radio playlists and which is the guide to over 1,500 radio stations in the country. SDISJ entered the roll on June 26th. Since the list hasn't been updated since July 13th, I can't tell you if other Jamiroquai songs are part of it too.

There's still no sign of Jamiroquai on either the Brazilian Top 100 singles or album charts (which proves Sony Brasil's ability and will to promote the band), but this sad picture may change very soon. I suppose Sony is betting heavily on "Dynamite" now (the album track), because it's been climbing the Brazilian Dance charts since its entry 3 weeks ago. It's currently at number 35. Curiously Jamiroquai appears on another track in the same chart. "Hollywood Swingin'" (with Kool and The Gang) is down at number 8 after peaking at number 2 a few weeks ago.

Well, I think it's cool Dynamite will be a great hit in Brasil. In that case Dynamite will probably become the 4th single in Europe! And I would really like that!
Anyway, I still can't understand Jamiroquai is on #35 where crap like Crazy Frog is on #6. And unfortunately that isn't just the case in Brazil. Even here in Europe the taste of music seems to disappear very rapidly...

I thought of that too, Kris.
If "Dynamite" is being played here, chances are it might become the fourth single worldwide. Who knows? But let me warn you that it's really not uncommon for Brazilian labels to release different songs from the albums, completely overlooking the international releases.

What ends up happening though is that the artist scores a massive hit here, comes here to tour but none of the idiots working at the record company tells him/her about it. So he/she naturally doesn't include the hit in his/her shows and annoys just about every fan present... I've seen this happen before. It's really unbelievable.

I'll keep you posted on Jamiroquai's progress over here.

Oh, before I forget, the Brazilan charts are dreadful... Beyoncé, Eminem, 50 Cent... Crying or Very sad It makes you want to cry...

Sad but true... and it won't be the first time...
It really puzzles me that Dynamite has peaked at number 1 in neighbouring Argentina, yet fails to enter the Brazilian top 100... I find that a miracle!!!

I think it's "game over" for Dynamite here. After climbing the Dance Chart for 3 weeks and peaking at a disappointing number 35, the song has dropped 4 places to number 39. And there's still no sign of Jamiroquai on either the Top 100 Singles or Album charts... It's such a shame...

Hi,

Very strange, because there's a lot of promotion here in Argentina, in fact FJLIS Maxi Single was released here, and there's a lot of promo in the radios, so if Sony wants to promote Jamiroquai for a future Latin American tour they should do it in Brazil too...

Thanks 4 listening

Goodbye

Jamiroquai is definitely out of the Dance Charts with "Dynamite", but curiously "Hollywood Swinging" is still hanging on. After peaking at number 2 weeks ago, it's still in the upper part of the top 30.

I admit that I haven't been listening to the radio recently (the same songs are played over and over here, so I've sort of given it up), but I doubt that Jamiroquai is causing a commotion on the airwaves. The band just doesn't get mentioned anywhere. Brazil's leading weekly news magazine, Veja, did a brief (and positive) review of the cd and that was it. MTV Brasil showed a bit of FJLIS and I've never heard another mention again.

That said, I don't think it's surprising. I feel the "brains" at Sony Brasil don't consider the group a good "product" that will make the label lots of money and prefer to invest their time and resources on other more poppy artists. It's true that, considering the state of the charts here nowadays, offering well-crafted Jamiroquai songs to the public is like offering pearls to pigs, but there's a number of respected musicians here who release good songs and score hits.

Personally I don't think Jamiroquai has ever been fully backed up by Sony. I mean, AFO had no less than 2 bossa nova tracks and nothing happened here. I remember Jay Kay in an interview in 2001 all excited at the prospect of scoring a megahit over here with COTE.... Sad ilusion.
