Jamiroquai's album or track which slowly deceive you...
From this Dyego comment:

"A Funk Odyssey is saved by Corner Of The Earth and Black Crow. Those are the only two songs I can listen to in repeat.
It is currently my least favorite album.

With Dynamite, it's happening the same Ophone just said. I think is over-produced. I hear machines, not instruments. Is hard to describe. The almost 'perfect' sound of the instruments takes me away from the song."

I'd like to talk about the albums or songs that you enjoyed first and then, by mystical reasons, you liked less and less until to be deceived...

As for me, Dynamite is highly concerned. At the begining, I used to listen the whole album. But month after month, i've been choosing my tracks to listen today only 2 songs: Dynamite et Time Won't Wait (one of the best jamiroquai track ever and unfortunately available on few versions [english, japanese and american...)

And you?

When it comes to the production of new tunes after 2001, Jay Kay is slowly deceiving me...REALLY!

I hope there's a change to come, but this "Rock, Dust, Light, Star" isn't really worth a hope!

There's a brutal break between 1999 and 2001. Jamiroquai lost a big part of its magic throughout computers and drums machines.

In two years Jamiroquai has been changing its DNA! Few tracks made exceptions: So good to feel real, Do it like we used to do, shoot the moon and time won't wait.

It's only 4 funky soul jamiroquai tracks in 10 years!

Now Jamiroquai continues its evolution near Rock style , began with Deeper Underground, then Stop Don't panic, Cannabliss, Black Devil Car, Radio, now Rock Dust Like Star.

I hope the forthcoming album would not forget funky tracks!

It is funny how this band becomes a part of the fans. You do have to understand that in order for the record companies to sell more records, the artist must continue to change their style. If they do not, they are most likely to attract less new fans (which is what the record companies look for). While I agree that Jamiroquai of yesteryear is more enjoyable (to me) I cannot speak for all. Some of my close friends think that A Funk Odyssey is the greatest Jamiroquai album, but these same people would not have purchased a Jamiroquai album ever without it. Just wanted to throw in that view Smile

Just a few tracks... I still like them, but I only listen to them occasionally.

TWM - Virtual Insanity
(The video rules, but the song is too sugary sweet for me to listen to repeatedly.)

Synk - King For A Day
(It's a well made song. It just isn't really funky.... at all. And it's a downer. It's also really out of place on Synk. Lots of funky stuff.... and then.... p.s. stu zender sucks. Rolling Eyes )

HT - Runaway
(I really like the bass line, but... the song sounds too repetitive listening to it repeatedly. It lacks distinguishing characteristics... like the whole song is just a 3 min chorus.

I thought I read that some of the tracks used loops, which would explain the 'perfect' sound... If not, well it could also be a consequence of layered tracks.... without live chemistry of band mates playing together, the sound is usually inferior in quality. Usually more robotic and lifeless.

This is one of the main reasons I'm really curious about the 2010 album. It's gonna be live, so hopefully the band mates' chemistry comes through on the songs.

One thing I appreciate about the jamiroquai community is that the fans aren't shy about criticizing the band. Plus, I just like to criticize... it's therapeutic, haha. Laughing But, I think it's healthy to maintain a balanced viewpoint, and not fall into the trap of blind fandom. Different opinions and favorites are a good thing too... it keeps things interesting. Cool

I agree that changes are necessary for survival. Just keep it funky.

Hmm few tracks...

But when I started listening to Dynamite, my first impressions were that the album was a better work than A Funky Odyssey was, but after you get used to some songs, you get fed up because I think the album is too "plastic". Loveblind and The World That He Wants are simply unbearable to me. Never thought the band (or Jay...) could reach this kind of sound. The other tracks (except Time Won't Wait, perhaps the sole "live" track) are passable enough.
Listening to AFO, albeit being much more electronic than their next, overall is a better effort. These last inputs from Toby Smith, saved the entire album from becoming a full pop album. Twenty Zero One, sounds very catchy at start, but after some time I clearly see the lack of purpose on that one. But I can't see any good in black crow, I'd stick with Picture of My Life, altough too downing, it's not as repetitive and is prettier.

Despite not so over-produced than Dynamite, AFO is very unbalanced, and makes me think it was due Sony's "revision" of it. There are very interesting tunes, but then makes me feel like jumping tracks to find another, just can't listen to it straight.

But still, I think AFO a better album overall than Dynamite.

Dynamite is a kind of mystery because half of the album sounds fresh :

Dynamite, Seven Days in Sunny June, Starchild, Talullah, Black Devil car and Time won't wait

it doesn't work together! Maybe the lack of true concept?

I agree with your post Iranterres about the comparaison between AFO and DYN.
