Brits Farce!
What a farce the Brit Awards were last night!!! Since when have the Sugar Babes been regarded as a "dance" act??? Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim and Chemical Brothers are "dance" acts, but not the Sugar Babes, surely!?!?!
I know Jamiroquai are hardly a "dance" act as well, but at least it is the category they fit into best. If there was a Acid Jazz/Funk category then Jamiroquai would win hands down every year, but with some of the strange winners the Brits had last night, I still wouldn't put my house on it!
What really annoys me about the whole pop industry at the moment and the award ceremonies they have, and it has been often said before, is that all the winners are "manufactured" acts that are the front end of all the work the record companies do for them in the background.
I quite like Liberty X and I think they are good to a certain extent, but at the end of the day, their record company do all the work for them, writing songs for them, teaching them dance moves, setting up publicity stunts, etc. and all the band members seem to do is take to the stage and sing (mime) the songs. This might not be completely accurate in reagrds to Liberty X, but you understand what I am trying to say here???
As for Jamiroquai, they are a band that formed themselves before being picked up by a record company, and even then, the record company seem happy to let Jay Kay get on with his own song writing and producing. When it comes to performing, Jay nearly always sings live, he improvises his dance moves and everything seems so natural to him. He is a proper performer, singer and song writer, who deserves his place amongst the top brass in the industry.
However, the Brit Awards, and other similiar award ceremonies come along and completely disregard all this, and just pick the winners that will get the awards the most attention. ie; more people will want Liberty X to win as they are more in the limelight than Jamiroquai, so Liberty X win, with no consideration as to their actual talents and achievements.
There is the argument to say that Liberty X have got more fans than Jamiroquai, and that they have probably achieved better chart positions, etc. but where will the band and all their fans be in 12 years time???
Form is temporary, but class is permanent!!!!
Basically, the Brits really annoyed me last night, and in a way I am glad Jamiroquai didn't win, therefore not associating them with such rubbish... _________________ Flying higher than a pig in space! |

well said, bobski! Couldn't have put it better myself. And I haven't even seen it! Here in Germany it will be broadcasted at this weekend...

Well, I don't care. For me Jamiroquai are the best. That's all what counts. Who needs awards??? :-C

Well said Bobski!
(Walks up to Bookie Parlor and collects money after betting for Sugababes to win, looks down at large roll green bills in hands and his smile starts to melt away into a look of dismay, starts to cry for some strange reason, falls to knees with tear-drenched eyes, rips up bet slip and puts in a new bet for Jamiroquai in the 2004 Brits) :5twocents
Hello, :bm_b:
I'm in second agrees with CosmicMouse, well said Bobski, the whole concept of award shows have degraded over the years, with the MTV Awards being the biggest example! The only thing that determines a winner is how much is sold, not the quality of the music. I see more and more flights of fancy music winning over deeper, concisive music most of the time, that is, One Hit Wonders winning over seasoned Vets, which is a bad thing, at least the Grammies are FINALLY getting it right with their nominations! Finally including more outside artists in many categories, mostly in Rock & R&B. The Brits may have a over-pop-overdose BUT at least some worthy artists won, like Robbie Williams & Coldplay. Thanks for the great post Bobski! The usual props to CosmicMouse & Bear! Peace and take care.
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
P.S. My B-Day is tomorrow, so if anyone would like to set up a celebratory post in the "Offtopic", please do, and leave your wishes! |

Yes, Jamiroquai's loss seriously pissed me off! I had popcorn and candy and a Jami song on pause to play it when they won. I even had a basket full of confetti to throw around my room when Jami did win. But the Suga Babies(or whatever their name is) took it instead. I was outraged, but played Little L anyway to calm me down. To me, Jami wins everytime! I was to leave on holiday the next day, and eveyone kept asking me why I was in such a pissy mood. 'Jamiroquai was Lightyears away from winning at the Brits!' Better break out the chibba chibba and get stranded on a spaceship hideaway for a while...
It's a shame to live in a world where popularity rules over talent. I say, Jami deserved to win, that award should be in Jay's hands!
Bloody Suga Babies! |
