Greatest Hits album ends the contract with Sony
Hello Jamirotalkers,
Some (good?) news about the future of the band. The contract with Sony, in fact, ends with the release of the upcoming Greatest Hits.
The Mirror newspaper says:
JAY Kay is planning the party to end all parties. His Sony contract is ending after a greatest hits album, and he intends to celebrate. "I was in LA and I could have shown them a thing or two about getting a party going!"
If he's happy... that means that he won't be under pressure to release his stuff... or that he... isn't making more music??
Anyway, credits to funkin.com

No, I think he's happy that after that chains will dissappear, so he'll be free to do music that he wants without such big pressure from the record company...
I don't think that people as Jay may live without music, because it's part of his life, without all these gigs and so on... |

I am feeling quite optimistic about the whole situation to be honest, I mean just because the deal is up it does not mean the end of Jamiroquai.
Perhaps it would mean the end if we were talking about a one hit wonder band...but obviously we are not, we are talking about one of the best bands in the world.
I feel this will bring a brand new exciting era to Jamiroquai where record company restraints are a thing of the past. Hey you never know they may sign up to Acid Jazz
Anyway, the thing is after all this i have one thing to say..............
Jay you know myself and jgrizz have to be at that party, c'mon man you know you want to |

i think this is good news - jay has spoken before of leaving sony and still recording his own stuff - now without the oppressive performing and touring neccessitated by sony, he should be a little more energetic and happy to make better music _________________ Have to get UP to get DOWN

The current news is a no-news. A contract is well defined with precise clauses. If it's contemplated, Jay can end it with a GH or other else. And, for sure, Jay will not have problems to find another record company ready to make him sign another paper. The true doubt is: which direction means Jay to give to his future music? Will he want still to get lost between Ferrari, parties and drugs, or will he still remember of being a musician? |

...and (many of you still don't remember this "little" thing...): we could hate Sony or not. But they gave Jay TONS of $$$. Jay himself has signed THAT contract, not me... Don't paint Sony as the only one devil: they've done their job. Is it reached the moment to end it? Ok. I guess it will be difficult that the next record company could offer the same amount of dollars. And perhaps then "goodbye!" to Ferrari and other pleasant things that don't regard music.... |

Bye bye Sony!!
I personally can't wait!!
I'm hoping that the Greatest Hits is worth getting. I mean I will buy it anyway but I hope it includes unrelease stuff and/or a DVD with the videos otherwise, for the die hard fans, whats the point in releasing it?
The fact that J is going to celebrate the end of his Sony contract suggests to me that he's glad that he will now be able to do what HE wants with his music. _________________ 'This is the world he wants, pray for the brave and the young...' |

my only concern is that they get to do more gigs outside od Europe, if they sign to a smaller record company i dont know if that would be still possible. _________________ We're going to a funktion yeah yeah yeah |

Thats a very good point, okay we may all be glad that the deal with Sony has come to an end but the one thing Sony gave Jamiroquai was exposure.
It is Sony that allowed them to start touring the world etc....so this i think may be something to think about |
