Scared about the new direction?
The latest live recordings coming out of Jamiroquai seem to have one thing in common: Heavy guitar. We've fallen in love with the band's good vibes (either in Acid Jazz or in Disco) and cherish them because they are different. Is anyone else afraid that the new direction of Jamiroquai could mean heavier and less-innovative music? Songs like Funk Odyssey and Cannabliss are evidence that JK and the crew are leaning that way. Even older songs like Soul Education (which was reminiscent of SHAFT) have been performed recently with a very heavy metal sound.
Of course I have great faith in Jay, and these live tracks are never without their usual keyboard-voice duets. Even so, are we permanently moving away from the music of the SPACE COWBOY days? Tell me what you think! |

eeeeerrrrrr! i will kill you! i was gonna post that same thing right now, but you stole it! i can't believe you did that to me!
to reply to the subject: I actually have begun to worry about the next album. The new songs Cannabliss and Funk Odyssey hav'nt grabbed me much. I fear I won't enjoy the next album as much as i enjoy the current 5. But I'll problaby learn to like it, afterall when I first bought emergency on planet earth I did'nt like it, but now I've grown to love it. Oh well.... _________________

Jay Kay said in a radio interview in Australia that he wanted the 6th album to sound like the first, with lots of strings and brass.
the interview is available at:

We may see some heavy sounds anyway, but there should be some great tunes on the next album. Who knows, we may even see the return of the digeridoo! Hopefully there will be something that will catch the ear of the American public.
I used to really like the new music better than the old music (synkronized better than Emergency on Planet Earth, etc.) but I eventually came to love it and I think the early music is in some ways much more interesting and funky. I hope the next album lives up to Jay's desires.
sorry smellbob.
