Lowlife Rock'n'Roll Philosophers
Hello everyone.
This is a half advertisement and also a request for a possible help from all of you As here are so many people from different countries, so maybe someone can give comments & tips on the subject.
I play the keyboards in a Finnish band called Lowlife Rock'n'Roll Philosophers. We have just released our second album, Violent Calm, here in Finland and now we might begin promoting the record in other parts of the world too. We are an indie rock/pop band with a female singer and we are still on our way to get more public attention also in Finland. We are not going to yet conquer the world (I guess) but we are sure sending promotional packet's to some music medias in Sweden, UK, Germany, Denmark, perhaps France, US, anything...
So if anyone here has some knowledge to give information about your countries' indie record labels, radio stations and music magazines (online/print), it would be warmly appreciated.. =)
We have 2 songs available from our new record Violent Calm (along with one older song from the debut album Hiding Place) for listening at our website: http://www.lowlifemusic.net
Our record is also possible to order for a very convenient price;)
Thank you very much. _________________ kite carrier (geuze)

hey geuze -
i actually know a lot of indie outlets here on the East Coast of the USA, but they are mainly hip-hop. everyone has a label here, because they get frustrated with trying to get on a major and then create their own.
off the top of my head, check out Giant Step - www.giantstep.net (I was actually just exposed to an artist from Finland through this website. Her name is Janita), RopeADope - www.ropeadope.com, R5 Productions - www.r5productions.com (for shows in my area and networking). Also, you might want to send a press packet to Pitchfork - www.pitchforkmedia.com. They are a great news outlet for indie and major bands. The newspaper I write for is independent also - Citypaper - www.citypaper.net. i'm sure there are more, but it's 7am, and i can't function right now. i'll be back in a few days and see if i can drum up more info.
the best thing to do in the USA is get a listing of college/university radio stations and hit them up with your press packet. (google search or something) you should also have a myspace page for your band, because that will expose many people to it. myspace is like the new online crack or something. people are so addicted to it.
this is a great time for international acts in the USA, because they are the current flavor of the month and being exported here non-stop.
there is also a radio station that pete (jamminneapolis) always promotes on here, and it is independent..i think it's called CURRENT.
also, check out www.radioradio.us
i'll listen to some of the tracks today! good luck, deesh |

7 Digital Launches indiestore.com
7 Digital Launches indiestore.com - Revolutionary Service Enables Unsigned
Artists To Build Do It Yourself Download Stores & Get Into The Charts
-- For the first time, unsigned artists and independent labels can sell
music from their own download store, and with sales counting towards global
download charts, achieve a chart position
-- Up to 80% of download revenues go directly to the artist
-- Unsigned artists and independent labels can use the same technology that
powers over 350 major label artists including Coldplay, Oasis and Muse
-- indiestore comes with a raft of features including blog, message boards,
gallery and events calendar
-- indiestores are a breeze to set up and the standard version is free!
7 Digital today launches indiestore.com, a revolutionary service that puts
unsigned artists and independent labels in charge of their own destiny.
indiestore enables artists to build their own download store, earn cash from
the sales of their tracks and secure a chart position in official charts in
the UK, US and 20 other countries. In addition, artists can promote their
gigs and stay in touch with their fans on their indiestore.
Benefits of indiestore.com
-- Artists can create their own store, upload their tracks and be ready to
make their first sale in less than 15 minutes
-- Enables unsigned artists and independent labels to easily bypass
traditional routes to getting music distributed
-- Indiestores are easy to setup and maintain, requiring no technical
knowledge whatsoever
-- Free version of the service lets artists sell up to four tracks
-- Pro version lets artists sell up to 20 tracks
-- Artists can opt to sell their tracks in US Dollars, Euros and Pounds
Sterling
-- Every indiestore has a blog, photo gallery, events calendar, mailing
lists and forum - all the essential tools to help bands build and maintain
their fanbase.
For any band, new or old, signed or unsigned, in today's market getting your
music online is essential.
Ben Drury, MD, 7 Digital comments: "The digital download market in the UK
has grown at an unprecedented place, with over a million tracks downloaded
per week. indiestore is a great way for unsigned artists to get in on the
action - today's technology is democratizing the music industry and you no
longer need a record deal to get your song widely distributed.
"Bands are already embracing sites such as MySpace to market themselves, and
now indiestore provides the added bonus of actually being able to make money
online. We are looking forward to the first number one being sold through an
indiestore!"
indiestore.com is set to become a worldwide community of independent bands
spanning all genres, with users uploading their own music and downloading
the work of others - creating a vibrant online scene.
One up and coming band, Paris Motel, has already built its own indiestore
(www.indiestore.com/parismotel) and started to make money from selling its
tracks already.
Speaking about indiestore, Amy May, lead singer of Paris Motel says:
"indiestore has the potential to put unsigned artists in the driver seat.
We're hoping indiestore will help create publicity, generate revenue and
give us the opportunity to see our music go into the charts. indiestore is
what every unsigned artist has been waiting for!" _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |
