Just to get an idea...
... of the lack of popularity in the U.S. our favorite band has (or I guess doesn't have), I went to the Coachella myspace page. Coachella was the big music festival in California I went to at the end of April. There's a lot of very popular groups, artists, etc that played there including Madonna, Tool, Daft Punk, Kanye West, the Scissor Sisters, Oakenfold, etc etc etc. The full list is at http://www.coachella.com if you wanna see some of the others.

At their myspace page- http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=22218577

They have a blog called "Who do you want to see in 2007 (at Coachella)?" Of the many replies... 4 pages worth so far... I was the only one who mentioned Jamiroquai (people weren't really suggesting big popular acts... more like indie and underground groups). Prolly not a good omen to get invited, but with a greatest hits album coming out later this year, you never know...

It's just disappointing that there are so few people that even know that they are still around. I think people in the U.S. thought they died after "Virtual Insanity".

not this again Shocked Wink

i'm tired, so i'll just say this...people are sheep. we go with the 'heard' and eat what we are fed. to keep it real, coachella is more backyard politics (who you know, who you did, etc.), than 'people popularity'. coachella has and hopefully will always be a platform for indie and under/middle ground artists to shine in front of a massive crowd. the MTV acts are just an icing really to build the festival's reputation as being taken more seriously as the other more established multiple act concerts -- and that formula works.

i Heart you pete, but who really cares if they are popular here or not? i can't be bothered - the people that need to know about jamiroquai, know, and that's good enough for me and the 20,000 or so people that saw them here this past fall Smile

I think it would be a perfect spot for them to gain some exposure with U.S. fans... if they're willing to take a backseat to some other artists and bands there. We can agree to disagree.

P.S.- I like your spelling of "heard" lol

I think in an way that's not too bad..
some time ago I read a comment here, I don't remember if it was Deesh or other US fan, that said that the lack of popularity JMQ has in the US, made it easier to her/him to be able to get to a backstage for instance, or get to know the band..

so, if you see it that way, it's kinda cool.. besides, sometimes I find it annoying to see ppl who say they are jami fans (or any other band's) and they only have listened the last single because it was on mtv!

yes, marina - true.

pete - yes, coachella would be a great festival for jamiroquai, because of the vibe. let me just get this thought out - if i had been in the business for 15+ years and sold millions of albums and concerts tix WORLDwide, the last thing i'd be worried about is RE-exposure in what is considered 'one of my weakest markets' and taking a 'backseat' with bands that just started and are close in age to my children. LOL (not out of pride, out of exhaustion and sense). especially since jamiroquai have already been there, done that. i wouldn't keep working to RE-prove myself, especially at the end of the contract. this same theory can be applied to an everyday, average job.

they come here and tour and we still get records. i think both of those (especially #1) is just filling a record contract and an 'invisible' contract with the fans called dedication and 'visible' contract with themselves called passion (sounds cheesy, but you get the point). times have changed.

it's all good, i used to deeply care - but eh....i guess i'm from the angle of i rather them be exposed (meet and greets, decent interviews, bi-coastal shows) because i think they and we (USA fans) deserve it, but not because i think they need it...just enjoying the ride from here on out...

so yes, we can agree to disagree babe Heart

(sorry i'm so lengthy, i'm just anxious this morning)

So you really don't think there's any part of JK that is like Robbie Williams, who wants a strong fan base in the U.S. market? There's a lot of $$$ to be made here if you succeed...

And Marina it's true about what you said. Which was very good last fall. But you gotta weight that against being not popular enough to wanna come back ever again. Which would suck...

I guess time will tell on how much more music is made after this contract is done and then we can prolly get some answers.
