A 'rant' on remixes
First comes first:

I like remixes to some extent if they're not poorly executed with lots of clichés common for the remixes. Too bad there are not many of such remixes around. Many remixes I listen to are just "synth/synth/drumbeat/peak/silence/weird noise/repeat". Too many of the ones that follow the clichés. However, that must not mean that the remix is bad, but just unoriginal. Enough for me to hate them. Sure, I generalize remixes, but that's me.

I like to listen to various music compilations all the time, but what really irritates me is when at least 1/3 out of all the tracks of the compilation are remixes. I consider that as an insult to the original artist, seeing how the original song wasn't 'good' enough to pass the line, but a remix is. Not that I have something against such compilations, but it's just stupid. And sometimes insulting to the original artist.

Rave dubs/remixes: Now those SERIOUSLY piss me off. I've listened to Headman's rave dub of FF's Matinee, and it was just sucky. The song would look good on a rave remix compilation, but if it's released with the original song, which is something completely different to the mix, too, then it's just stupid.

Remix compilations: These are usualy full of god-knows-what idiocies God surely wouldn't approve. There was only one remix compilation I didn't hate as much as a human can. It was in the trash bin the day after I bought the CD. If you wanna find something that should give you the image of a remix cliché, just go pick a random remix compilation.

Radio edits: Not as bad as casual remixes, but the song loses it's flavor after getting edited to be suitable for airplay. Just listen to the radio edits of Cosmic Girl and High Times. Nothing like the originals. Not that they're worse than the album versions, it's just that they don't make you feel as good as when you listen to the album versions. Those things are okay, but I still don't prefer them over the original versions.

In other words, many remixes are quite bad from my perspective. There are only 10-15 remixes I like, and a staggering 5 or 6 of them are Jamiroquai remixes. Believe it.

End of 'rant'.
