Which Space Cowboy do you prefer?
just curious
There are so many versions of this classic song, and everyone just seems to have their own favorite one, which is yours? an album or single version, or maybe a remix, or a live performance? If you can't decide think which version do you listen to most often. |

the one from twm tour. I love the one from the mclaren launch party for example...
but the one from the dynamite tour is very very nice. |

Is hard... I like the version from 1994, live, but I also like a lot the version from the AFO tour, that starts with a percussion... mmm
Hard, I don't know. All of them.

I am undecided... i like the album one and the afo tour one that is very funky thanks to toby, but i don't like the one from dynamite it sounds bad without improvisations essential for a funk band |

in studio version, I like the Stoned Again Mix. Don't tell me why lol, I'm not able to answer.
And in live, I like the Free Jazz Festival version. |

I am with you Deesh, I also voted for the demo version! It's so damn good!! Jay's improvising is amazing... love it!
From the live versions... hard to decide... I think from the TWM tour, but the Dynamite versions are also great, although it's really different.

I think when it comes down to actually picking one which is extremely hard, I have to vote for the sublime album version!! _________________ 'This is the world he wants, pray for the brave and the young...' |

most of all i love album version and video version.
from live versions i love twm era live version.
album version doesnt have stuart on bass but it has fantastic rhodes piano sound with supercool vibrato effect in the beginning..
video version has stu on bass but rhodes sound is different though also cool.
twm era has magic brass arrangement. |

the album version shows off the band's musical virtuousity..i guess sans stu, but hey, what can i say - the track may have benefitted without him. it's all about a smooth feeling, which is conveyed wonderfully by the flowing, intricate bassline and amazing synth/rhodes playing. the drumming is fantastic and seems to have a phaser or flanger on it (maybe you know, High Times ?)..plus there's tons of cool little stuff, like some of the rhythmic breathing and hidden noises, like the high pitched 'you and i' or is it 'cheeba cheeba' at 5:37 onward (very quiet and near the high end). one of my favorite songs in the universe.. |
