JK's HUGO BOSS new line
Hello Jamirotalkers,
An article I just found at Vogue site:
JAY KAY ON THE CATWALK
JAY KAY has confirmed long standing rumours that he was planning a move into fashion, and will shortly launch a line with Hugo Boss. The singer, who played a private concert in Paris' Man Ray club on Monday night, told us he was about to go to Japan to finalise the details with the Boss team. "It's going to be very small – about 10 or 12 pieces," he said, adding that it was not going to be focused on hats, as had previously been thought. "What I don't want to do is jump on the hip hop bandwagon and just add my name to a piece of clothing that looks a lot like last year's line," he said, adding that he envisages a utilitarian collection that is stylish and streetwise and aimed at jet setters.

hope it is trueeee..! because i really think he has a great "style taste" ... what he is wearing is just cool... nothing "typical rockstar clothes" like tigers on his underwear..or something like that...
it´s just stylish... cool... fits perfect for his figur... ...

Personally, I don't quite get this move to fashion... But maybe I'm prejudged about people who work in/with fashion. I hope so.... *singing "when you gonna learn? ...* _________________ The name's Rob, just Rob |

Nothing wrong with Hugo Boss clothes.
But the normal Jamroquai fan is not interested in that and does not wear it.
So I think this is only one planned investment for Jay for longer future, to make money also with other things than his music. _________________

7/7/06 UPDATE
here's an update. the text below is the net translation, so excuse all the funky characters and wording, but you get the point:
http://www.estadao.com.br/arteelazer/musica/noticias/2006/jul/07/170.htm
Leader of the Jamiroquai launches collection with Hugo Boss
Jay Kay, declared gotten passionate for hats, creates line with its preferred clothes, as leather jackets and pants boot-cut
MILAN, Italy - Of its vice for hats all already knew, but now Jay Kay, leader of the Jamiroquai group, gave a step ahead and is launching, with grife Hugo Boss, the line with limited edition JK will be Hugo.
The collection, drawn together to the director of creation of Hugo Boss, Volker Kächele, adapta the clothes preferred for the singer: the leather jackets, the gloves of race, the shirts jousts, the pants boot-cut, as the ones that use in palco, the models in jérsei and threshes and a stock market of week end, that reflects its style.
"my funny life around music, of the trips and high speed. The clothes that I drew with Hugo are ideal for this. Taste of the clothes created with fantastic materials that are simple but also very inside of the fashion ", explains the artist.
The gamma of colors goes of the purple one to the green cantaloups. The leather, pierced and acamurçado, dominate the collection, with many details as embroidered and sewings in contrast, while symbol JK will be Hugo appears in all the parts in form of zÃper, embroiderings or buttons.
The collection will be vendida in limited amounts and few store Hugo Boss in the world from November, while the next edition to the contribution of Jay Kay already is programmed for the summer.
*edit* - This is an old blurb (from October 2005), but I hadn't seen it before. It says that Jay is also going to design luggage.

JAY KAY DESIGNS: Jay Kay is set to launch a capsule collection for Hugo Boss, which will comprise 10 or 12 items, including a "funky" piece of luggage. The Jamiroquai frontman has designed the line with jetsetters in mind, saying: "The clothes will have a utilitarian feel to them with lots of pockets and will be stylish, streetwise and suitable for the outdoors." _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Hi everyone, I found this article today...
JAY KAY THE DESIGNER
JAMIROQUAI star JAY KAY will celebrate the end of his record contract with SonyBMG this year (06), by launching his own range of menswear.
The 36-year-old will sever ties with the giant after releasing Jamiroquai's Greatest Hits album in November, but he is already looking forward to his new venture.
A source says, "Jay can't wait to say goodbye to the label and get on with his life as a free man.
"He's got this big deal with Hugo Boss to design his own clothing line. It's casual stuff, jackets, slacks and driving gear called Jay Kay for Hugo and inspired by his love of fast cars. He was asked to come up with the kind of clothes he likes to wear while driving his Ferrari.
"He hasn't shot the ad campaign yet, but it'll be coming out in November to coincide with the end of his deal with SonyBMG.
"Unless they weigh in with an absolutely massive offer, Jay wants to move on to pastures new. He may bow out of music altogether for a while of just sign a record deal with an independent, leaving him time for other things."

Ok after a long talk to the italian community I decided to post here the news I found! a bad news to me!
as many of U knows Hugo Boss does also parfumes, made by Procter&gamble that DOES TEST THEM ON ANIMALS so Hugo Boss is on the death list !!
I know it has nothing to do with the clothing line but still to see J (and so unfortunally JMQ) connected with such a think made me really sad! I dunno if J knows it or not, and honestly I dunno even what to wish, 'cause if he knows it... well, and if it does not someone is not doing his work properly!!
Now is up to u guys!! I'm leaving for my holidays and I'm not very pleased to leave U with such a news!!
See U all in september and thanks to Fra, Janluka, Enos, Alessia and the rest of the Italian community 'cause this are the guys that gave me the courage to write this!!
even if I was not buying thoose clothes ( money) now I've god a good reason not even to think about it!! Sorry guys!!

Thanks for that information Deja. I'm happy you put it here - didn't know Hugo was associated with Proctor and Gamble. I know P&G very well unfortunately. It is homebased where I went to college and my best friend works there. I boycotted them years ago, but it was for racial reasons, not animal reasons.
Although I love animals, truth be told in my daily life, I am an admitted hypocrite of animal rights. I'm the biggest meat and fish eater to walk the planet , so I can't really speak on this at all. Jay is one of ADI's supporters and I know they speak out against animal testing too.
Thanks again for this info Deja and have a great time on holiday! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Thank Deesh surely I will!! part of my holidays will be with the Fra (and Hope the 2 Jianluka as well)!
me too I eat animals now ( i used to be vegetarian but I've a problem with my blood) but still this is different!
right 'cause I know very well that "OUR BOY" stand up for animal rights I got so...sckoked we can say!!
Honestly I hope he does not know it but I'm wondering if something would change if he does!! I'm referring to the fact that he keeps on sayong nice thing like this is the only planet we have, stop pollution (sound like that)and then he has 11 (??) cars and each one of them must do 1/4 mile with a liter of gasoline!! so... dunno!!
Anyway the important thing is that WE know it!!
going to make my luggage!!
Kises to U all, have a good month!

Did you know that Hugo Boss, the man himself, and some of the people who worked for him were Nazis? Big fat racist nazis, not only like those who joined the NSDAP (the nazi party) because they had to, no, real nazis supporting the work of Hitler! Just read that some weeks ago because I wanted to learn about all those companies in my region (I still know so little about Baden-Württemberg...). |

Thanks Lydster for that info. I'll look that up when I have a second. I've always been interested in stuff like that.
The education never ends on here - I dig that.
