Hi everyone, I'm new in here, I'm a french Jamiroquai fanboy and I hope this is the right topic to talk about; this is my french promo of High Times, such as you can find in stores like Virgin etc :

The funny thing is that you can read : "SON 1er best of" wich means "HIS first best of", as if they still didn't understood that Jamiroquai is the name of the band, not the name of Jayson Kay.
Good game SONY, as usual.
Nice to meet you !

hello Seb! welcome to jamirotalk
nice promo! i agree with what u say, but that's a thing that will not ever change
in the booklet of the album, there is also a part wirtten by jay that says "thanks to all the fans and everyone who has worked with ME on this crazy ride"
that disapointed me a bit.. because, one thing is that sony, the media, people, etc, say that jamiroquai is a singer. but to read jay calling himself as "jamiroquai".. that's sad..
by the way, if u want to tell us a bit more about yourself, u can do it here |

In the 1extra BBC gig, I don't know exactly when, he speaks at the first person, I also found that disapointing. Nobody's perfect. |

in a part of the gig he sais:
are you still with me?
and just after:
are you still with us?
he also mentions that always had a great band with him.....an in fact is the true, jamiroquai is a band, but not the same band, and in fact he is the only one remaining from the beggining so....i again see it like that. _________________

The truth is, Jay sees Jamiroquai as a band, Sony doesn't.

Exactly, it is his band. He's the one that started the Jamiroquai project and asked the rest of the musicians to join him. The record company saw in Jay a great frontman, and I think that's the part they wanted to simbolize with Jamiroquai. Jay always said how pleased he was with the musicians around him.

Even though many people would like that Jamiroquai be remembered like a band, it will never happen. The same thing happened for many band. Jimmy Hendrix had a band, Bob Marley had a band, but when people talk about their music, they will always say "he was impressive". It's a sad thing, but hey, there's one leader in a band, not two |

Since I listened the 1EXTRA gig again (just so excellent); and I remember that Jay says :
"So now I'm gonna do black capricorn day" ,but he forgets that all alone he's not gonna do much things.
I regret so much the "old" Jamiroquai; with all the band members in the video clips like EOPE, Stillness in time...
There were a real "band spirit",even if Jay was the leader-singer. I think it's what missing in "actual" Jamiroquai' music, where the members are unfortunately just like puppets on tv or shows, not taking part of the interviews, video clips etc |

it seems that the guys from the band dont make a big deal about that
look what Solá answers in the jamirotalk interview with him:
Quote: |
JamiroTalk.net: A lot of people see Jamiroquai as a one-man artist. How do you feel about this?
Solá: There's only room for one man in the spotlight. |

I think it's more a decision coming from Sony, that coming from Jay.
Like Sola said, there's only room for one man in the spotlight. In a band, the singer will always be the most popular. And I'm pretty sure that if Jay was unable to sing properly, you would have never listened Jamiroquai.
You can't always put all the blame on Jay, businesses in music don't have room for all a band... |
