Is he Buddhist?
There are references to Buddhist philosophy in Corner of the Earth and in the sleve notes of Emergency on Planet Earth. Anyone know if Jay is a Buddhist or not? |

I very much doubt it (and I've studied Buddhism for most of the last 6 years). But he does mention the laws of karma in the EOPE linernotes, as well as the lyrical references you mention, so I'd imagine he's interested in Buddhism, and sees a lot of sense in it. In my experience, most people who've started to find out a bit about Buddhism fall into one or both of these categories (myself included), but it doesn't actually make them a Buddhist.

Personally, I was beginning to wonder if JK was taking an interest in Christianity after listening to "Starchild". I figured he was reffering to Jesus Christ as the "Superman" and referred to him as "my Superman" towards the end of the song.
Being a Christian myself, I thought this was pretty cool, but I could have misinterpreted the song. I know he talks about televangelists and such in a seemingly negative aspect, but the chorus made me wonder about his beliefs. _________________ Just play my tune... |

-SJ-: Starchild's ironic, satirical. I'd be surprised if Jay's anti- any religion, but he doesn't like the hypocrisy of the TV evangelists in the States, which is what that song's about.

Here's a quote from a 2005 'The Observer' interview, where he mentions that he's not religious...
Getting married is not something I particularly want to do. I'm not a religious person and if you have children that should be enough of a bond. I just don't want to end up in court when it all goes wrong. You only need a spiteful judge on the wrong day and you've lost everything. The next minute you go round knocking on the door asking to see your kids and the bloody gym instructor's there. I'm not having that.

I agree with what Iñaki said, he's a believer, but not a religious. Once (in an interview) Jay said that he'd love to be able to kneel in front of a cross, but he can't, he doesn't feel like doing it. _________________

so maybe if he wasn't so cynical there might be room for some sort of religion , whether this be budhism or what - we don't know cos he probably likes to keep that private
