Space Cowboy
Hello everyone!
I'm not sure if this has been done before (too lazy to look) but.....Let's talk about SPACE COWBOY!
So... to start it off, I first have a question. What's with the 2 different versions? _________________

How could you not know space cowboy? It's a song by Jamiroquai. Ya know?
"This is the return of the space cowboy - interplanetary good vibe zone
say at the speed of cheeba oh you and I go deeper
maybe I'll have to get high just to get by
You and I. You and I. You and I, you and I, you and I, oh you and I
hey we'll go deeper yeah, we'll go deeper yeah....."
Does that ring a bell?
And can someone please answer my question about the 2 different versions? _________________

the first version - the original album version
the second version - the "stoned again mix" that can be found on some singles. the 3:40 single version is actually an edit of that version. this is also the version the play live. the lyrics are the same, but sang differently with different improvisations. also the music is quaite different _________________

yes "space cowboy" is my song! this song is just pure class! it's a very unique, innovative, soothing, nostalgic & a gr88 chill-out song...makes you feel free & good inside! It's a f***** remedy for me....who cares about taking pills or drugs...listen to jamiroquai's music! hehe aaahh...there's your remedy!
there are few favourite parts in this song (the album version!) which I dig a lot...here's a few of them:
at 02:24 onwards , where stuart struts his stuff (i.e. does his bass solo!) along with Jay making those breathing noises...sounds so effective and well improvised!
at 3:17 onwards, where we hear the backing vocals, "....you & I, you & i...."....sounds laidback & relaxing!
at 4:29 onwards.....where the volume of the music & JK's breathing noise decreases & later, at 05:16 onwards emerges out to become better than the previous part of the song. you know what i'm talking about, funksters? "I wanna go, I wanna go deeper with ya..you know, you got that, you got that space cowboy vibe, interplentary, good vibes, good vibes, high times....aahhh....cheeba, cheeba....." Phhwwoooaarr........i love that part!
Has anyone heard the "space cowboy" (demo version) ? f***** wicked, funksters! It's very near to the original version, & there's this part in the song where JK's voice sounds like a synthesizer..you guys know what I'm talking about? yes? no? clever man, J is!!!

what's everyone's opinion on this classic jami song?

I get the feeling, and here it is.....
The illustrious Space Cowboy is found not only in the lyrics of Jamiroquai but also in a song by the Steve Miller Band, many years before:
"Some people call me the Space Cowboy....
Some call me the ganster of love......
Some people call me Maurice....."
I believe, but I'm not sure, that "Space Cowboy" is the name (not coined by Jamiroquai) given to the bringer of the good vibes induced with the smoking of cheeba. Quoted in a live version (performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, 1995), Jay says:
"Everybody's got a Space Cowboy
He's in you and me, and you were surely see
and I know that in time
that all the things in my mind
they can surely be free
to be pleased, to do what i want to do
when I know that I can do what I want to do now.
And I, And I've got to find that, and we've all gotta find that
gotta find that Space Cowboy"
Maybe you just have to find your own Space Cowboy to figure it out for yourself
Cheers! |

I've heard the demo. It's fantastic!
This has always been one of my favorites.....I'm not sure if I like the album version or the single version. I can't really put it into words. Listen to the song and you know why it hits us the way it does (although, I wonder if listening to the song with some cheeba would intensify the feeling....I've never tried it).
Anyway, the video is superb, and you can see that the song is quoted on my signature. I hope we hear more stuff like this on album #6!
Cheers. |

Reading all your posts made me so happy cause I really have the same good vibes hearing this song... It's funny that you brought up this subject cause everyday of last week I had the Space Cowboy on repeat in my cd player in my car and I everyone passing me must have thought that I don't have all cups in the cupboard cause I always sing as loud as I can and try to dance while sitting and driving (you have to try it - it's not that easy... When I do the special breathing I always get dizzy - thats too much for my low blood preasure lol but I love it and I love the same parts as you Queen of Funk
And I just must agree with you Freddie - lets hear more of it on album No 6!! |
