Totally random comment. Seeing with a lot of you guys how your names originate from different countries to where you live now makes me realise how cosmopolitan our planet is...

Like all proper English people, I too have a foreign surname (there's no such thing as a person who's 100% English by blood). Mine's Kelly, which is Irish (pronounced 'KEL-ee' - a lot of Spanish speakers get confused by the 'll' and 'y' being next to each other!).

It (and the various other spellings of it like Kelley, Kellie, etc.) derives from the name of the Kellaigh clan, who were the most popular clan back in the Dark / Middle Ages when Ireland was still wild and untamed and Irish people liked riding round on horseback trying to kill opposing tribes and and... erm... spread their seed (some things maybe don't change very much...).

Basically, my ancient forebears were the most successful in Ireland at killing the men of other clans and raping their wives, and hence my surname is the most common in Ireland to this day.

It means 'Son of War'. Which is nice.
