Who's going to Jazz Cafe without tickets?
I thought I'd start this as a separate topic because if it's part of the main Jazz Cafe gig thread a lot of the responses will get lost in the rest of the talk on that subject. So.
It looks like we now know exactly which of us have and haven't got tickets for the Jazz Cafe gig. Leaving aside the politics of WHY you feel you haven't got one, and taking into account that from the band's Myspace and email messages, we know that without tickets there will be NO CHANCE of getting into the gig... who's going anyway? Even though you KNOW you'll have to stand around outside the venue and not be able to get in?
I'm not sure yet, but if enough of you will be there, it seems like a good excuse for a meet-up anyway, and a few drinks with those who DID get in afterwards!
Maybe we could even ask the boys along...?

Iñaki and Vere will be there. Sandra was thinking about it. So am I. I'll decide tomorrow.
I have to admit that I was more positive about the idea earlier today than I am now. Travelling from Sweden to the UK and stay one night isn't exactly for free... so I definitely need to think it over. The only reason (apart from meeting people) I had left was the chance of getting inside once I got there. But as that isn't going to happen I simply don't know if I can justify spending +£300 to take this one day trip... not to myself, nor to my wife.
Now, if I knew that I had the chance to meet the boys after the gig, if only for a brief moment (to have a few drinks with them would be the ultimate "cheer-me-up-happening", but I'm not going to kid myself into thinking that will happen... I've already had one dream crushed today) I'd be going for sure.
I'll sleep on it and look at it tomorrow with a fresh eye. Maybe... probably not though. I'm still hoping (a tiny little bit) for the BBC 2 competition. But I'm not allowing myself to believe that I'll win... I've already had my fair share of disappointment today. _________________ Old school forever! |

yeah i was thinking about it ..the last two days i planned the whole journey..the map of camden printed on the desk with the phonenumber of the hotel...
i couldn´t sleep until 3 am today..really didn´t know what to do..i made my decision now. i am not part this time..i will be at home in front of the pc listening online and laughing when i may hear somebody of u
and of course i will think of u all waiting outside and crossing fingers miracles happen.. _________________ "Here it is...there is no way to make it better " |

i'm one of the chosen to stay dancing out of the cafe!
jonas: just don't do a crazy move, your travel is so expensive, and (appart of dreaming) it will be impossible to enter, dunno about meeting the band out...in my case, the travel was more cheap, only 50 euros for the flight and some more for the staying, it's true that in my case this money is more than i have, i spent all my money in this, but just because i thought i had possibilities entering.
if the meeting with fans is the only real thing that will happen, then i think it's better to wait to other concert. that's my advice..... _________________

Yeah, Jan and Lee sounded pretty definite for it when I spoke to them on Friday. They gave me the idea in the first place.
I'm NOT going to be there though, I'm afraid. Basically I had a shower after making the first post in this thread, and thought it through... by taking Wednesday and Thursday off, I'll be missing out on two days of pay, and after the amount of time I wasted not working over the summer, I really can't afford to do that. For the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing Jami in the Jazz Cafe, I could've done it. For going for a few drinks at vastly-inflated London prices, I'm afraid I can't. I want to have money to spend in the Buenos Aires summer!
Plus as my best mate pointed out when I talked to him a couple of hours ago, once the Sony deal's done with there are likely to be more frequent 'small venue' Jami gigs in London. I know that's not a great comfort to the foreigners, but it influences my decision!
So, sorry everyone. I still think you should use this thread to arrange what's going to be happening on Wednesday night, but I'm afraid I won't be part of it. But hey, there'll be a Jamily meet next summer! See you then...

I agree with you Sam (think I wrote something like that in the other thread). Here's hoping to more gigs!

Unless a miracle happens and BBC 2 contacts me telling me I've won I won't be there either. The flight, the hotel room, the train and other expenses + losing two day's wages (no more paid vacation days left) will add up to £600 if not more. And with my habit of spending hundreds of pounds on records... and clothes/trainers... hell no. It would be like letting an alcoholic inside the Whiskey factory.
It's not going to happen. I can't justify it to myself... not even if I try to. And believe me... I've tried... hard.
If I knew I'd get inside I would reason differently of course. But to stand outside and hope for people with tickets not to show up... to hope for the bouncers to be nice and let us in just because the ticket holders didn't show up... I'm not that kind of gambler. Not when this much money is involved.
So, unless I get positive news from BBC 2 before 19:00CET today I will definitely not go. Should something happen after that I will honour my promise and try to transfer the tickets to Iñaki and Vere.
I wish I could be there. But it seems like I'll just have to enjoy is as much as I can by watching photos and videos as well as listening to the audio. Most of us will "attend" the gig this way after all... I'm not alone.
To everyone going there without tickets... GOOD LUCK!!! Especially Iñaki and Vere as you planned this a long time ago and travel from far away. _________________ Old school forever! |

Wow, I feel really bad for everyone that soooo badly wants to go but cant get tickets.. (I don't have any either).
I'm definately going to take a walk down to the Jazz Cafe on Wednesday evening though, as I only live 10 minutes away ... praying for a mirical to get in but the chances are that it aint gonna happen.
I've not been online the last couple of weeks so it imposible to read back all those pages about this, but have a Great Time all the lucky ones |

i'm sorry you're not coming jonas, but as i said, i think it's the best choice.
i just come from changing all my euros to punds, i get 80 pounds...i hope it's enough because i just don't have more.
this is a very hard punch for me, going there alone and not entering to the gig, and i will not have money for NOTHING no more in a long long time... _________________

Inaki
u are not alone!
we are caming the day after in the early morning and mee to I'm esactly in the same situation, but don't worry of nothing not especially x money...we are going around saying we are a community a jamiro/family (jamily) and so on...and x me is absolutly true and once u get in my family/jamily I won't let u there alone and since I have same pounds we will survive and I'm sure many ppl think the same so...that' s the last worry you have now ok?...and even if I know is not nice to depend on others..I also know that one day it wll be your turn to give and someonelse will receive
then I'm sure english fan and friends will help u not to stay there alone on the 24th and give u all the hepl they can!!
be positive, after all we're gonna hug a lot of nice ppl, laught enaught, see the boys...and if it must be...we will also get inside.
Space Clav, can I call you Jonas??
I can understand your reason perfectly as I told u yesterday if it was not Fra's birthday and I had to book now..I wouldn't!
I'm sorry not to meet U...but now I' sure i'll do this kind of thinks more often ( and more prepared )...so we surely will have the chance.
Think of us!
the funny think is that u're probably gonna see it on internet before me and Inaki ( we have to get home x that!) so...in a way u will be there before of us!

£35 for an "economy room" at Alhambra Hotel (also on Argyle Street, close to the other place you're staying at). Toilet and shower in the corridor, not on the room. King's Cross/St. Pancras is just across the street.
Somerset Hotel at 6 Dorset Square. Very close to Baker Street/Marlyebone Station and walking distance to Oxford Street/Hyde Park. About the same price for a simple room... £33.
I've heard that there are some "dodgy" places with affordable pricing near King's Cross... on Pentonville Road.
Bayswater should have some affordable places aswell. I don't know any specific places though. When I've been in the UK I've only stayed at hotels in the £65-£130 price range for a single room.
Let me do some research and I'll PM you if I find anything useful. _________________ Old school forever! |
