No love for Nick Fyffe at Wikipedia
I was just checking out the Wiki site for Jamiroquai and clicked on the Nick Fyffe link to see what he was up to and noticed that his page doesn't even contain a picture. No real info on his past with the band or much of anything. I say that we start adding stuff to his Wiki b/c he deserves atleast that much respect for his time with Jamiroquai.

No love for Nick from me either. His contribution in Jamiroquai didn't impress me at all, and he (on more than one occasion) was not the nicest person to people, so all that together equals no love from my corner of the earth for him.
But whatever - it's not that serious. I wish him luck in his endeavors.

I guess I am a fan b/c I really enjoyed Synkronized. We do we go from here is a great track and butterfly really has some funky bass lines. As for AFO, Love Foolosophy has great/fun/funk bass lines too. Gotta love Nick  |

I shall always remember Nick as the bassist who touched his bass about twice during each of my first two Jami gigs. On record he was fine, no real complaints, but live, he did very little except clap his hands...

do you think that it might be the reason that he left? Was he getting pushed aside by Toby and Jay? Were they telling him that they could play better than him on the keyboards? I have no basis on these claims, most just curious. I have no extra speacial place for Nick either, I just thought that with so many great Jami fans out there the Jamiroquai Wiki would be 100% full of info.  |

I just don't think he is as good as bass player as either Stu or Paul. I did a comparison listen to a few songs which all three have played live over the years and Nick is the low spot every time... especially TWM - my favourite live song by far and one that *needs* a strong bass.

There was no question of being 'pushed aside' when I saw him. I don't mean 'he never made the effort to solo', I mean, 'he never made the effort to even play the damn bassline.' He spent basically the whole gig grinning at the crowd and clapping his hands, and put his fingers to his guitar for perhaps two bars in every song. He just didn't bloody play a THING. If I'd been in Jay's position, Nick wouldn't even have lasted as long as he did as part of the band, I promise you.

nick fyffe its a greeeeeeeeeeat bassplayer ! nick fyffe slaps are so funky , improvisations and etc ... look Canned heat live ! that´s magical !

No, I'm not a bass player, but I have an ear, I've heard Zender and the guys who followed Nick in the band, as well as lots of other music, and... well... I've seen him live, and he spent hardly any of the time playing. I don't have to be a bass player to see (or hear) THAT.

Canned Heat studio version doesn't have an actual bass in it, It's made by the syntheziser... as far as I know.
I will always think there's no one who can play with the same feel as Stu did and affect so much the songs that they were made almost from the bass. Nick was more straight-like in tempo, safer and predictable, most of the time with a very clear sound on his rig ( from AFO and on), lacking of that "dirty" some hell players usually have. All those things could take away the natural feeling and groove that is needed. I do think jamiroquai lost a lot of soul and power when Stu left the band, but still He had some good bass lines... The early Nick was so much funky, a little bit more agresive and free if you wil. Tracks Like TWM and CH at BBC 99 had kindda soul in there and He play awesome in Sunny, that was the best version they've made for that song.

Bass is always present on music, unless You are running a sequence or something... I saw videos with Nick playing and He was always busy w/ the bass.
Perhaps You saw a very strange show mate, I don't know |

I'm with Sam and Lily, and no I don't play bass either.
I've seen Nick in concert twice, I believe. By chance those were the two least enjoyable Jamiroquai concerts I've been to. Not all because of Nick, but partly.
His contribution is just so minimal to me. Honestly, he seemed more of a temporary fill in. I think everyone could feel he wasn't permanent in this band.
Something about him is just ugh...not saying he isn't a good bass player, but I think he could do better and maybe be better and show his skills with some other band - not this one.
But who cares, he's gone!!

Yeah... and welcome Paul Turner!!
Don't get me wrong Stu and PAUL are one and second for me. I thought Jamiroquai would hire a more seasoned performer when the place for the bass player was empty the first time and then Nick got the gig... I just think, if He could play in some ocassions with certain feeling he could keeping it growing and could do better for many things. Most if you had that monster as a forefather...
But yep, He's gone and Stu's still my bass hero |

Well, in that case I saw TWO very strange shows. As did Deesh (and the only gig we've been at together was Lovebox, which obviously wasn't one of Nick's). I am aware that bass is always present, but as you point out yourself it's easy to synth it on a keyboard... all I can say is that every time I looked at Nick he was clapping with his hands over his head, grinning at the audience. Then he'd put his hands to his bass and play a couple of bars, then he'd start clapping again for most of the rest of the song...
