UK Festival Awards 2006**LOVEBOX Nominated
Sorry, this post will include a press release, which are always long - but I will highlight the parts that will probably interest you, which is  box and how to vote for it if you like. I wish I would have known they were collecting suggestions on VF and Carling for some of these categories...we could have bombarded them with Jamiroquai...

You have to register to vote at www.virtualfestivals.com , and you will be entered in a drawing to win 3 prizes. Check the site for details. Note: This is one of those things you enter and have to give your email, so I'm sure you'll be put on some type of list!

The UK Festival Awards, curated by virtualfestivals.com, are the only entirely publicly voted honours presented to artists and festival organisers. As such, since the hugely successful 2006 festival season ground to a halt, the UK music industry has been waiting with baited breath for the nominations for the UK Festival Awards 2006 to be disclosed.
This year, for the first time, the annual public vote will culminate in the UK’s first ever live festival awards ceremony taking place in the Carling Academy, in Islington London on Thursday 19th October complete with live performances to be announced and an aftershow party to end the festival season in style! Today, we can exclusively reveal details of the full list of nominees….

Award For Innovation
1. Bestival: For the new ‘Breast-ival’ area where mothers could breastfeed and change nappies in peace.
2. Carling Cold Beer Amnesty: Declaring war on warm beer, fans were invited to swap their cans with ice cold Carling at Reading, Leeds and the Nokia Isle Of Wight Festival.
3. Download: Download TV, a new website developed by Live Nation, invites fans to upload and share video footage from the rock festival.
4. Get Loaded In The Park: Ticket buyers were given a free and exclusive track by headliners Babyshambles, plus access to a new website.
5. Hyde Park Calling: The Who’s headline set was streamed on the internet and shown live in Hard Rock Cafes around the world, thanks to the restaurant chain.
6. Latitude: Mean Fiddler fused music, art, theatre, literature, cabaret and poetry to create an entirely new festival experience.
7. Pod Pads: Gave guests and VIPs an alternative to sleeping in tents, constructing cosy beach hut-style with beds and mattresses.
8. T in the Park: 500,000 live download cards were included inside packs of Tennent’s Lager which made this the only UK festival this year to make live tracks available to fans for free, online.
9. V Festival: Morrissey fans at both sites were able to download a live version of his single immediately after he performed it.
10. Wakestock: The installation of a huge wakeboarding ‘pool gap’ allowed riders to show off their skills in front of crowds in the middle of the festival site.

5. Girls Aloud covering Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘I Predict A Riot’ at V Festival
6. Panic! At The Disco continuing their Reading Festival set in defiance after singer got knocked out by a bottle thrown from the crowd.
7. Procol Harum performing the tear-jerk classic ‘Whiter Shade Of Pale’ at the Nokia Isle Of Wight Festival.
8. Radiohead finishing their V Festival headline set with the long hibernated ‘Creep’.
9. Roger Waters performing ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ in its entirety at Hyde Park Calling.
10. Scissor Sisters performing at Bestival dressed as clowns, despite a ‘clown ban’ for the fancy dress party.
Virtual Festivals Outstanding Contribution Award
To be announced at the UK Festival Awards ceremony
Music fans wishing to cast their all important vote can do so by going to www.festivalawards.com from Monday 25th September. This year, voting will take place for a limited three-week period.
Now, there is even more incentive for festival goers to vote, as the UK Festival Awards are offering an exclusive ‘Ultimate Festival Package’ including two tickets to ALL of the winning festivals AND free lager for a year courtesy of partners Carling. All those who vote will be entered into a prize draw to snap this up and make sure 2007 is a year to remember!
For the prestigious ‘Anthem of the Summer’ category, a long list of 20 songs which have lit up festival stages across the UK will be whittled down to a short list before voting for this category begins. Music aficionados wishing to have their say should listen out to partners Virgin Radio for more information of how to get involved from Monday 2nd October.

“We launched the UK Festival Awards in 2004, to heap some long-overdue acknowledgement and praise onto the stars of the UK's world-leading festival scene. Every year we'd been seeing all these people making legendary contributions to popular culture that were being largely overlooked by the existing music awards bodies. They should be celebrated for their hard work, and if no-one else was prepared to do it, then we were delighted to step up to the mark.
2006 is already being hailed by many as the greatest year for music festivals ever, so we thought we'd better do something really special with the awards. So we decided to up the stakes, bite the bullet, do the honourable thing and leave our online comfort zone to stage a proper live awards ceremony. We'll be rolling out the red carpet (or should it be a grass green one?) for the big, end of festival season bash!”
