I AGREE WITH COSMICMOUSE ABOUT SYNKRONIZED!
big hat I don't have a worst Jamiroquai album. I can understand some fans having a best and worst album (and then the ones in the middle)
but I like them all just as much. I see a lot of people crediting ROTSC as the best Jami album (cue the replies from people who disagree Smile ) but I have to say I don't know why so many Jamiroquai fans slate this album.
Some people say it should be called the Experimental album. Let's not forget that the whole album had to be re-done after Stu Zender left. Who knows? If it had have been finished originally and Stu didn't leave we may be calling it the best Jami album. I have listened to the full album twice today and I have to say i'm hooked. I think its excellent. Then again we are all entitled to our own opinions and this is mine above. supersonic black supersonic white

There are so many great tracks, infact all of them. I'm not saying that Butterfly and Falling are better than Everyday and Too Young To Die but this is a bloody good album.

Anyway, thanks for reading (if you got this far Very Happy ) and I hope some of you agree.

buffaloman big hat buffaloman dannyev (Daniel).

I just bumped into a rather old thread about Synkronized and came to think of a few questions. It is interesting to think of what the album would sound like, if Stu Zender hadn't left. But have any Synkronized-recordings done with Stu survived? Du you think he's playing on some of the tracks -- without credits? Doy you know anything? I must admit that some of the tracks have a very Stu Zender-ish sound, but maybe Nick Fyffe is just a fast learner ...

Martin

These questions have come up in my head before as well. If there are any "original synkronized" recordings (with Stu) i'm sure they're under lock and key. I'm sure Jay has them stored somewhere at his mansion, but I doubt we'll ever hear them. I also doubt that Stu played on any of the tracks without being creditted. Not only do I think Jay wouldn't want to do that, but it's probably illegal.

As for as the quality of the album, I have mixed opinions. I think the songs are mostly good, some are better than that. I have to give it more credit than AFO in the respect that the sound is uniquely Jamiroquai (I love all the albums, but AFO was sugary.....I couldn't hear the unique bass lines and constantly changing keyboarding that I've come to expect from the band). The fact is, Syknronized was a great stab at a new direction, but at a time when the band was in a metamorphosis, it came up, I believe, somewhat short. Maybe it's because the preceeding albums were so incredible. But I think maybe the album has a problem in that it tried to accomplish too much. I can't remember who said it here at Jamirotalk, but I've heard it said that the albums are like chapters of a book; they each have a unique sound and they fit together like a story. It's not until the whole story is complete that we'll get the entire picture. But Synkronized went after the disco to come in AFO with CANNED HEAT, it had a downright rock sound with BLACK CAPRICORN DAY, and it still tried to hold on to the days of the digeridoo with SUPERSONIC (a less-than-par didge song, I believe), while trying to have a message for Stu (it seems to me) in KING FOR A DAY. The album tried to much. The songs are good and catchy, and I would expect much less from any other band, but Jamiroquai is the greatest, so my expectations are high (maybe too high).

Anyway, what I have said by no means implies that the album isn't good. It isn't even my least favorite (I don't think I have one). I have to concede, however, that it is the album I listen to the least, but maybe that's just my musical taste. I'm an acid jazz man.

Anyway, I hope these comments have made a least a little sense, and I look forward to seeing what other people say.

Cheers.

Well, there is an exception on the CD edition of the album with bonus track; Stuart Zender is playing the bass on 'Deeper Underground'.

I know there are some 30 second clips out there from the original Synkronized recordings featuring Stuart Zender. But I can't find them anywhere on the net. Does anybody here on the board have them and want to share? I REALLY want to hear the clips :)

Martin

I wasn't aware that Stu played on Deeper Underground. But the song was actually released in 1998 with the soundtrack of GODZILLA, so I guess they recorded that before Stu left.

I faintly recall seing a clip available for download somewhere, but where would the site have gotten it?

Maybe there was some promo for Synkronized that was released very early, before the Stu left? I'd be very interested to know.

Hello,

There are two short samples of (what is supposed to be) the "first" synkronized. Both last about 30 seconds.

They were only heard during a program about Jamiroquai on MTV (during the recording of the 1st Synk). The program consisted of Jay commenting some charts and showing his mansion and blah blah blah. At some point, he shows the studios and play the tunes (not live, from a CD player or some machine).

That's where these come from, there has been absolutely NO promo release and no one has ever heard more than these bits of tracks.

One is Jay scatting over brass (pretty reminiscent of their cover of "Our Time Is Coming")... I can't quite remember the other one. Anyway, it sounded really cool and funky.

I think that no one (except Jay, some other members and a couple of Sony officials) has ever heard complete tracks.

Cheers

Francois

That's a shame. Too bad about those tracks.

Maybe they'll release them like twenty years from now when everyone is dying for more Jamiroquai, and Jay is willing to let them go. Maybe we'll get the whole story on VH1 Behind The Music.

Sad turn of events. I hope we get some "scatting over brass" in album six.

Cheers.

Surprised OK everybody:
We have to act. We have to rescue this secrets tracks and put them in internet. We should enter in Jay´s mansion (dressing like Santa Claus in christmast, for exemple) and, in the middle of the night, while Jay is sleeping or buzy with some supermodel, we take the tunes and run.
The destiny of all the jamiroworld is in our hands.
Think about that. Wink
