Help. Trojans.
What do you do when you have a trojan in your pc.
First, do not reboot.
Second, try to delete it with the antivirus but what can I do if the antivirus can't?
I'd be grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks.

Depending on your antivirus package there may be a link to their website, where there might either be a downloadable, execute-once style program to get rid of it, or instructions on how to do so manually (all the files to delete and a list of keys in the registry to get rid of).

I've not had a trojan (or indeed anything) for quite some time now so I can't help you out much I'm afraid... no doubt someone will be able to, though.

nah... those stupid "antivirus" doesn't work....
you can save your data in another hard drive and reboot, that's the best thing you can do to delete it for complete!

Google the name of the trojan. You will most likely find several guides on how to remove it.

Usually these things are loaded in the registry.

Check:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If the trojan is "cleverly disguised" as a service you'll find it in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices.

First you delete the registry key. Then you reboot. Then you delete the exe-file and/or the service. This is the only way to do it. When deleting the registry key and rebooting you prevent the trojan from being loaded (again). Then you want to delete the actual file(s). These can't be deleted if they're in use, hence the steps taken must be in this order.

But I advice you to be careful unless you really know what you're doing. If you delete stuff you don't know what it is you can cause more harm than good. Make sure you find yourself instructions you can follow step by step for the trojan in question. And make sure you use instructions from a reliable source. You can always try symantec.com first.

Thank you.

After doing some things and deleting some other things, I analyzed my pc and my antivirus says that it doesnt find any trojan, its clean.
I guess it's really deleted... isnt it?

If the very same antivirus program said you had a trojan earlier and now says it can't find any I guess it's deleted.

That's right. I can't get a connection at home, I don't know what I did, the computer in general works ok, but I can't connect. Don't know what to do now.

Thank you Smile

Just a brand, Vere. Nothing very exciting (well, unless, like Deesh, you find condoms exciting, that is).

I had a bastard of a time trying to connect last night and the night before, AOL just didn't want to play ball. It doesn't happen often but it's bloody infuriating when it does...
