Sola Drum Clinic - November 24, 2006
I know some of you are really into the entire band Jamiroquai, but I assure you that you will love drumming with Sola for an hour. It's just you and him - personal attention and breakdown of technique and culture of drumming/percussion of different countries.

You won't regret this and it's an experience you can look back on with a smile. Those that are in the London or close UK vicinity, take advantage of this! Smile

yes, when the person goes - everything is set up...and you pick what you'd like to learn or expand on. there are drums, and all types of percussion instruments. sola tailors it to the needs/wants of the student.

hahah why not? he probably doesn't know all of them! i've been playing percussion for the last 7 years... and i've been playing salsa, and latin jazz... who are more complete genres than Funk or whatever... the difference between him and me, is that he's in a very famous funk band and i'm a normal kid Very Happy hahah

and he makes so many mistakes while performing, but i can't explain that! haahah my english is not that strong! haha that's why i prefer Maurizio ravalico... but still Sola rocks! he's awesome!

and remember he's nigerian... he probably knows some african rhythms i dunno... latin is a combination of African tribal music with american jazz... the story of it is so cool! he played wonderful in the concert here in venezuela... but sometimes he gets lost and makes some mistakes! but nobody is perfect, or is out there someone perfect!?? haha

ok... i really thank you for your comprehension and support!
"how could you be better than him if he's in Jamiroquai?...."
when you say that you hurt my feelings! i dunno what happened but one day i saw you like a hero (the beards and all that stuff) and a great friend and now you're saying i'm not like them because i'm not popular and i'm not in a popular band!
so sad bro! but thanks! i still like you man! you're a great person!
i will have to keep fighting to be someone in this life!

bye Iñaki! Sad

Hey Ed, don't be sad. Give proof that you are right and show us some of your percussion skills! Very Happy Record yourself and let us hear what you can do! You made me curious! I didn't realize that you are a professional musician. (I knew that you play percussion but didn't know that you are that good!)

Also I am interested to hear the difference of latin and african percussion styles, which you have mentioned a lot in the past. A demonstration of you would be much appreciated. maybe it is easier to understand by hearing. I'd also like to show it to my son. Wink

Hope to hear something from you soon. (don't worry about record quality)
Good luck for your career - is it your plan to make music for a living?

Ed - Hopefully when and if the band come back to Venezuela/South America, Sola will have time to do a lesson or two there. If they do, I'd encourage you to help him find a spot that maybe he can carry out these lessons and you two can exchange skills.

I do want to say though that besides the percussion and drum that Sola teaches, he has a great deal of character and discipline to teach also. He tells stories about training, how he does warm-ups, how much time he spends, things he needs to work on and perfect, times when the rhythm has to catch up to him - and many more. He speaks of learning from other musicians also. So while you are there to learn percussion and drums, it's a bit more than that. You also get to see Sola's personality and it's intimate and that time is more precious than when you are sharing him with a concert full of people. He answers any questions you may have about him and Jamiroquai. For an hour, it's just you and Sola - and to me...the experience in itself was indeed remarkable.

I just encourage all fans to take part and go if you can. It's something to look back on and be grateful you did it...trust me!
