'Love Blind' appreciation thread
Hello Talkers,
Alright, I know I'm gonna get kicked because of this, but before I want to let you know that this song was my least favorite when I first heard 'Dynamite'.
I'm not saying is a masterpiece now, but perhaps I'm feeling represented by this song nowadays. Mainly because of specific part of the lyrics, and that the music goes from a dark-angry tone to a slowly love kinda mood. I found that interesting. I'm also enjoying the small jazzy part in the middle very much!
To sum up, I have a new re-found respect for this song, and it's different. For once, let them have the benefit of trying to push the limits and trying something new instead.
Jamiroquai
'Love Blind'
Love blind and you're on my mind
Even when I'm walking the dog
I'm carefree like this melody
Hope this doesn't take us too long
Baby, turn me on
You put fire in me every night
I need the drug you got to give
Keep it like that 'cos it's positive
Can't leave you to feel alone
Step in the car let me take you home
Slide right up and make you bend
Now we did it once, can we do it again?
Baby, you got me hanging off the streetlights
You got me singing with the bluebirds
In the sky above
I think I'm in love
Step to me, angel eyes
You got the shake and I gote the fries
All black leather like a disco bitch
Five feet nine with your ruby lips
You made me love blind
And I can't get you off my mind
Mama said stay away from girls like you
Turn out the lights, I know what to do
Baby, rock the floor
You gonna rock the floor tonight
Baby, rock the floor
Baby, rock the floor
Baby, rock the floor
You gonna rock the floor tonight
Baby, rock the floor
Baby, rock the floor
Rock the floor tonight
And you got me dancing on the ceiling
You got me thinking abaout the whole world
It revolves around you
So what can I do?
What to do?
Baby, rock the floor
Baby, rock the floor
Baby, rock the floor
Kiss me twice and I need some more
Yeah, you're gonna rock the floor tonight
You've got me hanging from the streetlights
You've got me climbing up the wall
Everything you do reminds me of the good times
Woah, baby, you know you made me so love blind
You're gonna rock the floor tonight
You're gonna rock the floor tonight
You're gonna rock the floor tonight
You're gonna rock the floor tonight

Tallulah is the highlight of Dynamite imho... and Starchild. But Tallulah is my favourite. I know the album good enough to say that now.
So... back to topic... regarding Love Blind...
The first 16 seconds are more than decent, it's beautiful. A really nice chord progression.
As far as the the verse with the grungy guitar goes... I hate it! Yes I do.
The chorus (same chord progression as in the beginning) is nice thanks to the lush chord progression and a pretty good vocal line. A better bassline would have lifted this part sky high though. The lack of a really groovy bassline makes it a half measure I'm afraid... at least imho.
The jazzy part at 2:18 is sweet. I just wish it would have continued until the end of the song, with a solo part or something. But oh no! That electro beat which makes me physically sick is reintroduced and destroys it all.
If they had used the intro, the chorus and the jazz part and coloured it with some solos and groovy basslines it could have been a great song. But it ended up a song I never listen to, just because that grungy guitar and electro beat makes it a rather schizophrenic tune.
Just my two measly Euro ¢... _________________ Old school forever! |

Don't forget its live version, very different from the studio track. Amazing IMHO. I'm not going to say it's my favourite dynamite track btw.. _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

I agree that the small jazz part in the middle sounds great, but in my opinion the rest of the song is hard to listen. To be honest, I've never liked this song.

I've had the same evolution, Iñaki |

Yes I wanted to point that out too. The evolution of that album. Whenever I put 'Dynamite', I go to specific songs (Electric Mistress, Starchild, Tallulah... perhaps Hot Tequila Brown). I don't know why, I thought the song 'Dynamite' was excellent, it was my favorite when I first heard it, but now... I think there's something missing in that song, is good but is repetitive.
I wonder why many of us had the same evolution on that album...

Definetively it might be a very good subject to speak of and discuss about it.
The very first day I listened the album I enjoyed it so much and I spent all summer 2005 listening to it, specially songs such as FJLIS, seven days, starchild, talulah, DGHAC or TWW. However, last months I've noticed your same feelings: there's something missing in this album, something empty, maybe anachronic. |

what happens to me with this album is that for some reason I cannot finish to listen the songs (most of them).. I have to skip to the next one before the song is over
on another side , I was thinking, Jay doesnt have to walk his dogs.. he's got a big (big!) park in his house! |
