Album 7 will have no computers....
Hello,
I just spotted this interesting sidenote on Funkin inbetween all the GH promotions from JK pertaining to Jamiroquai next new "post-Sony" album :
During the bands current promotional work in Spain, Jay said in an interview, published at the ABC.es website, that he doesn't plan on using computers for the band's next album...
"In the next album will be no computers. The computers are for sluggish people. They are easy to use, but music loses its essence."
The full article (Spanish) can be read at the ABC.es website (LINK: http://www.abc.es/20061107/gente-gente/jamiroquai-ordenadores-para-gente_200611070309.html ).
ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF ARTICLE:
Jamiroquai: "the computers are for sluggish people" DAVID MORA'N BARCELONA. "people say that I am belligerent, but I do not agree. The problem is that the English journalists only want that speaks of my collection of hats, of my cars... I am intelligent: you do not ask to me on insignificant things ". Thus one appears the Briton Jay Kay, leader and singer of Jamiroquai and artist known by its rudeness and exits of tone. The vocalista of Manchester, visit in Barcelona to promote recopilatorio of great successes "High Times. Singles 1992-2006 ", is specially calm and alleviated: with this disc, seventh of his race, it ends his relation with the record one in which it made debut three lustrums ago already. In fact, one would say that it defends the album more by obligation than by conviction. "It is only a review to the work of last the fifteen years. Not even I chose the songs ", assures. Now, it says, which matters is the future. A future that, in its case, happens to reorient its sound and to look for new routes of expression, "In the next album will be no computers. The computers are for sluggish people. They are easy to use, but music loses its essence ", assures the singer shortly before taking itself with a monólogo on the poverty, the hunger and the overpopulation of the planet. "When he was young, it thought that music could change the world, but nothing can change the world", comment.
There you go, so what you think, the new sound I guess does dull the creative process, especially for Jamiroquai, whose music creation is always in flux. I'm happy that J wants to take a break from the computers and pro-tools, make another album, of course after his year break, that revolves back to the "Acid Jazz" roots....I wonder if J might consider a few choice phone calls to former bandmembers for inspiration . Thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
P.S. I now realize that this post slightly infridges on Sister Samantha's original post about this interview, but if some team member could merge both of our topics, then we could mine OR hers as a discussion topic for this news ....even if it's a bad idea....delete either of our topics if you like. _________________

Yes this are in fact good news for all the old Jamiroquai fans. They should do the best music now, they are free creatively speaking, and doesn't have any company behind their backs.
Although I'll miss their electrofunk

hmmm...but there grows a question in my mind:
What about Matt?? I´m sure he had a huge influence on the, letz call it: " Jamiroquai computer sound"....
isn´t it a little "hint" to Matt... to leave Jamiroquai..?

How do you figure that when the computer sound was there before Matt?
I don't know how I feel when Jay says these things, and not that I think about it all night, but when he started doing the computer sounded stuff, he was biggin' it up left and right - and kept speaking about experimentation, going in different directions and trying new stuff, and how things can't stay the same....
But now, he acts like those are things he never, ever wanted to do and basically puts that part down.
I'm confused really, but like I said - doesn't matter. I'm just thinking too much _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

in fact what you say is true, deesh. but then look also to lot of interviews he gave about greatest hits album, in lot of them, he says it's a good way of ending, becaus eis the end of a chapter balh balh, but he really never wanted this album. maybe the same happened with the computerized sounds, he may have defended it in that way in the past only for promotion because that's what he did in the album (for preassure maybe) and he can't say "yes, my new album, a funk odyssey is pure shit, it's plenty of non organic sound wich i hate and are put there to catch nerdy people who don't knows a fuck about music and needs electro beats and spaceship sounds to enjoy an album", so he need to say "it's experimentation blah blah blah" _________________

Quoting Jay in the Jazz Café, London: "Back to the oldschool!"
And Matt won't leave the band, he can play the piano.
So I think this is excellent news. Brass, strings, natural sound, ... I can't wait! |

well.. maybe ..good point...
sounds like:
"...well.. we don´t give sh..t... about the sound... we didn´t care...cause it was done to fulfill the Sony contract...so we were sluggish...to use brass...and strings...but now... we will spend more effort ...to OUR music.."
Well, I can´t wait either.. for the "new? old?" sound....
hopefully we don´t expect to much.... _________________

I think it's very important to understand that just because there are no computers does not mean there will be no synthesizers.
they'll still need the rhodes and clavi sounds and all the funky riffs on the moogs and arps etc
What he probably means is that they will not use so much of things like sequencing software, samples or digital manipulation of audio tracks and they will record in a more "live" fashion.
I'm looking forward to it already

What Jay is telling us now is something I've always said. I told you he needed that oldschool vibe to feel good about himself. I always thought Sony was the reason to change of direction.
It seems like my reasoning wasn't just wishful thinking after all. I'm so happy about the recent news. I've said it before and I'll say it again... "I predict a bright new future for the new old Jamiroquai". Back to the oldschool! Time for some proper music again! _________________ Old school forever! |

I agree. TROTSC album wasn't very computer-oriented at all,but it still had synthesizers and such.
I really can't wait for this. I just hope they don't start releasing albums on the internet for digital download like I remember reading from someone on here...unless that situation has changed. _________________ Just play my tune... |
