Black rap/R&B
hello fellow funksters.

i've talked about this before, but does anyone else truly hate this music?

ie Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, etc. i think it is atrocious. ps: like i've said, if they were 'white' and pumping out the same music i'd still think it is crappola.

ur comments, and reasons.

Pietro out.

PS: my comment? i hate it. blow it up i say.

u probably base your opinion by the shit you see on TV or hear from the radio. OR might be that you hate EVERY hiphop/rnb song ever made but i kinda doubt that. there's LOTS of good hiphop/soul/rnb out there and i believe you would find something to your taste easily, if you looked for it.

i hope this makes some sense, i'm kinda dizzy at the moment.
laters.

It's commercial music. You can't expect it to be great. But for a night out Lil Bit will do just fine.

I hate all the mainstream rap and R&B, however there is SOME stuff I like, older stuff like the Wu-Tang clan and what-not.

It doesn't make a difference to me weather they are black or white, its still the samecrappy music.

okay, the only "rap" music i have ever liked is the REALLY old stuff (Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, some of Run DMC). note that these are the only main artists who used no samples from other artist's songs.

Rappers Delight by Sugar Hill Gang is a re-recording of the hit "good Times" by Chic. Not a sample as such, but still... Just like Dr. Dre didn't sample Mothership Connection by Parliament as much as he re-recorded the bits he needed.

But as far as hip-hop/R & B is concerned, I gotta say there's a lot of very similar music out there. Then again, that goes for much of the music industry. Making progressive music isn't street enough, so it gets disgarded.
Anyway; yes, there are some good songs in those genres, but personally, I prefer real live instruments, not drum machines (ouch, AFO) and 60's/70's production values.
But I don't see why so many of you seem to hate hip-hop/R & B (well, they call it R & B, but it has fairly little in common with e.g. James Brown), as it's all part of the music that evolved from blues, just like jazz, soul, rock, funk, you name it. Musically speaking, the music on many hip-hop tracks are a type of funk, either sampled old funk tracks or programmed similar beats. I don't love that music either, but why on earth hate it?
If you think there's too little funk around, well, we're born too late, aren't we? I see two options:
1 - whine
2 - start researching the old music, there is so much funk and soul around, both on CD and vinyl. And open your minds to some wonderful music!

Just a thought... are we talking about this genre of music or the simply the over commercialised branch of it?
