Jamiroquai musicians on Francis Lalanne's album
I bring here the news that was reported in the French forum of Alexoquai ( http://jamiroquai.forumactif.com )

We learnt that a lot of Jamiroquai musicians played and wrote on the new album of Francis Lalanne, a well known French singer (who is a lot excentric) tock tock
Derrick has produced the album and surely has brought the others to this project.
We are a lot surprised because he is a singer , always with his acoustic guitar, he's not verw appreciated by young people in France; and his music is nothing common with Jamiroquai balla balla

http://www.fglmusic.com/lalanne/album.html

Here we can see the people who contribute to the album : Sola, Derrick, Matt, Hazel and......ALex Meadows, So we guess now who will be the new bassist... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

But the most surprisng is that they all play with him for few dates in France in March and April
http://www.fglmusic.com/lalanne/news.html

Personally, I don't like him but I think more and more to listen a piece of the album in a store and maybe buy it if it is great, the album releases the 15th of March Shocked Shocked

Jamiroquai without Jay ???
2bouncy WOW, Vax, thanks for sharing this surprising news!! surprise This is really interesting!

Arrow Jamiroquai without Jay Kay... let's just hope that Francis Lalanne won't destroy the sound... LOL

I don't know him, the name sounds familar, but I can't remember that I have heard anything of him.

Who is going to visit a concert in France? Would be interesting to hear some reviews or even bootlegs from "our boys" playing with Francis Lalanne. Very Happy

Please let us know, if it is worth to buy the album!!

Is that the reason Jamiroquai are releasing album so late? That Jay & Rob didn't have anyone to play with??

Otherwise, this looks very strange. In my opinion, I can sense some Jamiroquai in those songs, rhytm that is.

I don't know, I probably wouldn't buy it.

I was listening to the snippets. 7headphones

Well, it is... different. Rolling Eyes I can't really get used to the french singing. Normally I like the french language, but in music I prefer english.

So, I tried to focus my hearing to the music. I like the songs where Derrick was involved in the writing (Track 2 and Track 6).
Also, the title "Freestyle" (Track 4) is nice. I like Matt's keys. It's grooving.
Reptile (Track 7) is the best, from what I can hear in those little snippets. It's rocky and I even like the singing. At least it isn't deranging.

The rest is average. Not really my tast of music. Maybe I have to hear the whole song in order to judge properly... Rolling Eyes

It would be interesting to know, how they came together. Obviously through Derrick, but how?

Intro
When you go to the startpage of his website, you can hear a nice intro. Is it performed by "our boys", too? Is it Alex Meadows we can hear at the beginning?

In the biography section of lalannes website you can find this:

From London back!
a few time after the death of Yann Philippe Blanc, as it would be a sign, francis lalanne meets Derrick Mckenzie. this drummer of exception is the conductor and arranger of the groupe created by Jay Kay in the 90's "Jamiroquai".

The confrontation of their two universes, diametrically opposite but surprisingly very close, will bring them, after some musical tournaments of anthology, to collaborate on the new project of Francis

The meeting with Derrick McKenzie sounds like a true artistic thunderbolt between the two men. The Londoner black accustomed to the stars world will go until settling a time at his place to work like a navvy on this project become common.

Nearly two years of work will have finally been necessary to lead to the exit of this album éponyme, reflection of a real upheaval.

As Gainsbourg and Nougaro before him had conquered the heart of Wailers for one and Nile Rodgers for the other, Francis Lalanne allured and involved in its adventure some of the best English musicians of the moment.

Fruit of this new collaboration, this new album will surprise more than one person. The French poet seems to have entrusted the magic of his words, his more beautiful texts and his compositions with the British wizards

Tenuous cocktail of songs in the tradition of the hexagon but with the very modern sound (recorded in London), arrangements of McKenzie Derrick perfectly knew to mix their two universes

Recorded with the musicians of the initial formation of "Jamiroquaï" this album inserts to us in environments as varied as Groove/Funk (Elle est Woman, Ni les mots ni les mains…), World music (On vit ensemble), Rock/Rythm’n Blues (Reptile, Freestyle…), Emotion (Papa, Vivre sans toi), and even Hip-Hop for Insane and its flood of text in homage to all the rappeurs of France, but without never breaking the bond with the universe of Francis Lalanne which finds here a new support with its words as attests it « Laisse toi aimer »which summarizes with it only the spirit of this musical fusion

No one is not prophet in his country says one and often the artists owe expatrier to find best themselves. Our poet globe trotter will not have made lie this old proverb. Instigated by the "kings" the popone, it returns in its beautiful country of France to make divide with its public this intact energy... that we must protect!

I found this interview:

... Un coup de foudre d'amour ?

Oui, presque d'amour, mais platonique. Entre musiciens, on parle de feeling. Derrick m'appelait souvent, me faisait écouter ses musiques.

This last album is the first where you dare to rock in the hip hop?

Yes, I dared for Yann. It is my history with him, it is my way of returning all to him that it gave me, there or it is - and me I believe that there is a life aprés death. These songs were initially not intended to be on a disc...For me, important was to do them. It is a girlfriend, Trinu, which is signal model, which presented to me in one limps in Paris the musician of Jamiroquai. With Mckenzi Derrick which is the beater of the group and the co-signatory of ' Cosmic Girl', there was a thunderbolt dice the first evening....

A thunderbolt of love?

Yes, almost of love, but platonic. Between musicians, one speaks about feeling. Derrick often called me, made me listen to its musics. I pointed out it....

Did this collaboration start, then a little more than one year ago?

Yes, just after the departure of Yann. I took refuge in this relation. I often went to work with Derrick and his buddies in London. They also came some times to France. With them, I checked what Yann

had said: that I would be Francis Lalanne since years didn't keep me from beeing Francis Lalanne today. One then burst oneself together: I put words on their musics and they played mine....

Why texts like ' Papa'?
I lost my father not so long ago and, for him, the most important thing was that I sing. It had reproached me besides for having been put in a situation where I could not sing any more and said to me: ' In the life, there are times where one A twists to have right'. I thenarrived at the studio with this text, I took my guitar and I sang it with the guy and they explained me that I was nothing to add on top.

I said to them that I wanted the liberer and, for that, not to sing the song with the guitar to him as I had always done in front of him, and then I éffondré myself in tears. They included/understood whereas this guitar had absolutely to be removed. The percussionnist proposed a rate/rhythm to me which one made in his African village so that the hurdy-gurdies people can dance with the young people. It with added: ' As that your father will be able to dance with us in the ciel'. Then, the musicians exploited around this rate/rhythm and my voice

The evening, Derrick called a buddy harpist in Philarmonique of London so that it comes to play and this boy came at ten hours the evening, under the rain, with his toothing-stone... It was magic. The music of my past became that of my future.

Were the songs all made like that in this state of grace?

Yes. That lasted one year and one recorded an about sixty song into live, certain times, one needed ten or twenty catches before having the maid

Why of put whereas ten?

The producer thought that one all the more had time, that there were things better successful than of others and than one did not have to be obliging, with things which one did not think not finished
