Oh, shit...
I went to ophtamologist today, because of complaints of short-sightedness. After several tests, it turned out I'm freaking astygmatic.

I have a horizontal focus, and that means (lower left corner)...
I can't bear the thought of myself bearing glasses, so it's obvious how long and how much I'll bear bearing them in reality (I can't bear this all). I want contacts, but my parents insist I use glasses... Really cruel. |

Because they fear my eyes wouldn't get the needed supply of O2. They've never heard of porous lenses with microscopic holes which let the eye breathe as if the lens aren't there... |

hmm..but you have to be careful with lenses!!
well..it´s ..some years ago..maybe 15 years...I tried lenses by myself...
and through them I got "dry eyes" and that damaged my cornea!!
since then I have to use eye drops..  till I die !! otherwise I could become blind !!!
I wear glasses since I was..12...ok..sometimes in special situations...they disturb...but...an eye-damage...(which may doesn´t happen to youuu)..is much more...worse...
just my 2cents...
and wearing glasses...is not tooo bad...maybe makes you look more...intellectual...

What's the deal with the glasses? I had to start wearing them like... 6 years ago, I like how I look on them  Is not that bad!!
I don't have that, I have myopia by the way.

I have myopia too!!
Glasses are not so bad.. you just have to get used to them..
For example I start wearing glasses till I was really young and now i can't see myself without them!! I feel a hole when I haven't them.. I feel a little bit.. naked!
Really.. it's strange to explain it.. but it's true 
I think you should get a pair
p.s. we can start posting our photos with glasses

you'll get used to glasses and trust me, you will appreciate the improvement to your vision!!
i have both, contacts and glasses and i swap around them.
still looking into getting my eyes lasered one day. glasses or contacts can be difficult when you go swimming and such... |

Do yourself and your parents a favour.
Get the glasses, and feed your parents all info you can find about lenses!
Lenses can be tricky, you loose them pretty easily.
So a glasses to back up your lenses will be very welcome?
I have a lazy eye, so glasses will not really help me.
But i do know from others back up glasses can be good.

I got my first pair of glasses only a few minutes ago... I can't believe how much everything improved!! Think I'll shut up about contacts now... Even though the perspective of my glasses is really weird... It feels... High.   |

Enjoy your new glasses and the improved sight!
I can well remember when I got my first glasses. I already had minus 4 on both eyes!!  Couldn't believe to see so so much better Until then, I always was used to learn everything the teacher said by heart instantly, cause I never could read what was written on the board 
Nothing wrong with lenses so The first bad lenses are histories away. Of course they improved like every other technical invention.
Soft lenses can breathe. I use them now for over twenty years without problems
You just have to buy good ones, ordered by a specialist, not a normal optical glasses seller. Take care with cleaning them and regularly exchange them and get your eyes controlled. Then nothing goes wrong. I have mine in a "leasing" system with exchange every half year.
But like cosmic bear, you will mostly use glasses too. I use glasses in the evening to relax the eyes after a ten hour day with lenses 
Just a note about astigmatism:
Most short sighted people got this more or less. It is just, that the doc does not mention this always, but it is kind of "normal" that the view of the eyes is not quite "circled" but oval. Nothing to worry about
It can be corrected with glasses or lenses. I got a different astigmatism in both eyes  and I have special oval lenses for that. They don't circle on the eye, like normal ones, but always stay in that special oval position, that corrects the view

At first when I was younger, I hated glasses (I have -1,5 Left and -2 right eye), never weared them, always been in lenses, but later, I found out that glasses are great accessory - there are sooo many models now, so many fashion variants that now I have a great collection of them and I like wearing them:))
And I still have lenses but my eyes get tired in them fastly and it's annoying at work:(
But anyway I want to earn some summ and make an operation which's done with laser, my friend's done it 5 years ago and she still feels good and satisfied a lot:))) |

You're saying there's an operation that allows people to get rid of astigmatism just with a BEAM OF LIGHT?? Say, how expensive is it all, really? |
