I guess Jay needs to rewrite When You Gonna Learn into:
"Mountain high and river deep,
you could've stopped it goin' on,
you should've helped this world get
up on its feet,
now people, you can keep it goin' on,
greedy man are hardeheaded, yeah,
they never stopped it goin' on,
it has never meant to be this waaaa-hey,
but you've kept it freely movin' on.
I guess you never learned to stop it goin' on... (x2)
[Fadeout]"
BTW, did you know that Bush banned Al Gore's film recently? |

Re: An Inconvenient Truth
The problem is that it's not a movie ... But I agree with you, everybody have to see it, brillant-scaring demonstration.
Yesterday, reading the news on the net (winter storm in U.S, winter in Poland without snow, tanker full of oil sanking in U.K ect) I was thinking that -unfortunately- emergency on planet earth is more and more becoming a reality, they were very smart and in advance to write this song 15 years ago. Maybe even too for people ... _________________ Smile ~ |

It's a movie alright... a documentary movie.
It's been Emergency On Planet Earth for a very long time. Too bad the ones in charge refuse to see it. _________________ Old school forever! |

Well, they won't be able to deny what's in front of their nose for anymore longer. Their time is ticking out, and one day, they'll have to face it all, and by one day, I mean soon, very soon. |

I mentioned this movie in the movies thread back in May. It's a great movie. Unfortunately, people just saw it and commented on how great it was instead of using it as motivation to do something about the environment.
Al Gore should stick to environmental issues and steer away from political issues.
It's a must see movie! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Well... consider this...
* Creationism is the only truth - there is no such thing as evolution.
* The earth is 14000 years old, God gave us the earth and there is no way in hell we can destroy his divine creation, it's ours to keep and use as we see fit, the earth is perfect and indestructable.
If people believe in this they will ignore and deny the real truth until it's over and we share the fate of the dinosaurs. If you believe in this you happily accept that we must follow God's divine plan. In the end times everything will burn up. That's why they will sacfirice their own children and refuse to see the truth. Their faith simply won't allow them to believe in global warming. To acknowledge it would mean that they have to give up their faith and accept that God's divine creation is destructable. That's impossible!
Trust me. As long as there are voters who believe in that stuff, as long as there are politicians with interests in certain companies we won't see a major change. To acknowledge the problem with global warming would mean two things for certain politicians. A: political suicide, B: economic loss.
I'm sorry... but I think we're doomed. I don't think we will see a change before it's too late. I certainly hope that I'm wrong. But I'm afraid everything will go to hell sooner than we think. _________________ Old school forever! |

I have not seen this movie, but I will - thanks for the thread Jonas.
The sad thing is, this is true. I can't believe how little news is circulated regarding this tragic issue. Instead (in the words of Jay), the media are more keen on discussing David Beckham's new haircut!!
The amount of cr*p that is in the paper today is comical. Why oh why are people not taught about what will happen in the future?
History repeats itself and once again, there will be a further outbreak of diseases, more crime, more poverty, because "we" and by "we" I mean society, want everything yesterday!!!
As for the media; they ought to pull their finger out and do more!! I mean, do the media/politicians/authoratative figures live in cloud cuckoo land? I have never seen anything like it before. It's a total chaos! I also share Jonas's comment on our planet being doomed. We can't re-write the past
It makes me so angry! _________________ Jamiroquai - it's stitched into the clothes that I wear... |

I saw it, I read the book too. I have to say that I think it's a good thing these types of documentaries get appreciation and attention. However, after watching the docu, it might very well be that you feel very...bad about all this, but don't forget that this is another side of the story. As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Which doesn't mean that we should ignore it; I am a true believer of the green economy. And fortunately, more and more companies begin to see that there is a big (potential) market for green-related products. Actually, you can just about make any product green! I for one would love to have my household appliances work on electricity generated by solar power (roof panels), use of the earth’s warmth for heating, recycling of rainwater (for toilet flushing for example), etc etc. Problem is, when you buy an existing house, building these features in costs a lot of money (although you can eventually make it profitable!). In my opinion, governments should promote these things, by giving (more) financial support, for example by giving tax-cuts on the products or other subsidies.
Anyway, just my two cents... |

We don't have to wait that the politicians make someting, cause they'll not, too much money involved.
We all can and have to do little but efficient things: switch off the light when you leave a room, completely turn off TV and all electronic stuffs, buy heating programmer ,no stupid water wasting, take the public transport etc

I watched this the other week and it got me wondering how different things might have been if Bush didn't scam Florida's votes...
Anyway, I just heard that this film is being made available free to schools in Australia (Victoria at least). A step in the right direction. _________________
