If you enjoy soul music, and especially good soul singers, then you need to get down with Alice Russell....
Alice Russell is a British singer that I think has superb vocals. She's being a bit overshadowed by Joss, Corinne, and Amy right now, but 'Hurry On Now' was the first song I heard of her, and I didn't immediately like it, but I watched the video last week and dig it a bit more. I listened to some tracks on her myspace and she has a POWERFUL voice...one of those that doesn't need a mic to sing, which is good and bad because it can be intepreted as shouting.
She did a cover of White Stripes, 'Seven Nation Army', which is on her myspace, a little screamy to me - but tolerable.
Then I remembered that she collaborated with Natural Self on a track that I am playing over and over again today called 'I Don't Need This Trouble"
I have it on a mixtape, so it's not the whole thing, but to give you a taste of how funky and soulful Ms. Russell is, download the MP4 below her picture.
